My wife got me the 8 hour electric guitar build for our 5th wedding anniversary. I was a little apprehensive, not really being a guitar player, and not knowing exactly what I was walking into. I also went from loving woodwork about 20 years ago, to doing basically none...for 20 years...it's always a little intimidating playing around in a world you don't spend a lot of time in right? Josh Hurst, our instructor, was amazingly knowledgeable, super accommodating, and incredibly patient as well. I suffered a horrible bout of COVID-PNEUMONIA back in December of 21, and am still suffering from some long COVID Issues (Brain fog, cognitive and memory/focus issues). Josh didn't know all that when we met, but I imagine noticed it as we went lol. All that being said, it was a great time. Any goofy preconceptions or apprehension or worries I had about not being a guitar player or whether I'd comfortable with various woodworking activities went away from lesson 1. Josh walked us through step by step both via discussion and demonstration, and follow up while we were working as well. Guitar materials are top notch, Josh is a self proclaimed worst salesman ever, but offers no pressure upgrades to almost every part of your guitar along the way, from the body and neck to the pick guard. Lunch was good, conversation was fun, and I ended up with a new friend or 2 in Nashville, and a VERY NICE fully functional electric guitar.

My 13 year son and I drove 8 hours from Virginia Beach to Nashville to experience the Guitar Build Workshop. As a father of a teenager, I was looking to give my son a taste of something different and allow him an opportunity to pridefully build and complete something using his own two hands. This experience did exactly what I was hoping to do and more. Not only did he walk away with a great looking, unique, custom guitar, he got a sense of what it means to be passionate and engaged in an activity. He learned the different skills such as sanding, staining, time management, and part assembly, and how each skill can be developed and fine-tuned to produce a better outcome. As our witty and entertaining instructor stated “it changes the trajectory”. Which it did for my son. I would recommend GBW as a must do activity in Nashville no matter your current level of playing.

The guitar build workshop was an absolute blast! The staff here are exceedingly friendly and made everyone feel welcome and at home during the entire experience. The hands-on 'guided learning' results in exceptional quality guitars that play great straight off the workbench. Great quality materials are used throughout, right down to the capacitors in the wiring harness. Loved the color selection and the ability to 'try before you apply' the body stains. Almost limitless color combinations available, and there are some great samples available to use for design inspiration. Looking forward to seeing the build options evolve over time - we will definitely be back!

Highlight of our Nashville Trip!

On a recent family trip to Nashville my son-in-law found the Guitar Build Workshop on-line. He and I decided to go together. What an experience! Our host was great and the facility was first class. We actually built our own guitars...actively finishing the wood, picking the colors and painting it, installing the electronics and all the parts & pieces, all adjustments done ourselves. All the expertise was there and our instructor was a great guy. It was the most enjoyable day and I came out with an "original" guitar of my own. The quality is excellent and the sound is great. Thanks for everything!
