Stopped in for a quick bite after a long drive down from Michigan. Found easy street parking (albeit Wednesday at 5pm so not exactly rush hour).
Greeted at the window with a smile and great service. A/C in the adjoined seating area was nice in the 90+ degree heat. They even had a booster seat I there for our 3 year old.
Salad: House wege was generous, had real bacon on it, and cool crumbly blue cheese. Horseradish ranch I could have bathed in and still not gotten enough.
Burgers: cooked PERFECTLY and quality of beef, bun, and toppings all on point. No condiments needed (but of course, the kids ruined theirs with ketchup and mustard).
Wings: Not too big, not too small. Plenty of meat per bite. Fried to crispy perfection and steamed after every crunchy bite. Hot buffalo were good and as expected. I almost swooned when I saw OLD BAY DRY RUB. For those who don't know, Old Bay is the BEST kept chicken seasoning secret. I split my wings between SB and OB....should have gone full OB!
Fries: If you do nothing else, stop here for the fries. The entire family agreed they are the best we have ever had. The thick cut is intimidating until you bite in the crunchy exterior and soft, pillowy goodness inside. I don't know what kind of voodoo is done to taters to make them that exceptional but I tip my hat.
Must try. Will be back our next...
Read moreNashville’s Best Burger…or at least it used to be. I’ve eaten here several times and absolutely LOVED it, so much so that I forced my wife to make the 40-minute drive in from Cheatham County tonight for a meal. We ordered two cheeseburgers, two fries, a side of chicken wings (4), a bottle of Sprite, and a bottle of water. Total cost: $37 before tip. Yikes. But if the burger is good…ok, we’re in. Except…the burger wasn’t good. It was very plain, with zero flavor and no salt. The tomato and lettuce were barely there, and the few slivers of onion practically pointless. And then there are what were formally called “Nashville’s Best Fries.” Oh the disappointment…what used to be nicely seasoned and perfectly crisp slivers of potato were now overly large and poorly fried. The disappointment was tangible. We wondered if maybe the place was under new ownership, because this wasn’t the burger or fries we remembered. I just don’t think we’ll be making the drive into town to pay these high prices for a mediocre...
Read moreGrillshack is a casual no-frills environment - perfect bicycling destination conveniently located next to my barber-shop - with 3 outdoor tables and a few indoor tables. Clean single-stall bathroom. Order at/pick up from a window that opens to their outdoor deck. No table-service that I know of. Mom 'n Pop neighborhood feel, not big-box experience.
I had a Grillshack burger with fries, my kids added bacon and my wife had the veggie burger - smiles all round. Adequate portion sizes with better than store-bought fries, greens and pickles etc on the side served in bio-degradable packaging. Self-service napkins, Ketchup/Spicy Ketchup & Mayo packets outside.
It would be nice if there was cutlery next to the ketchup, and a complimentary self-serve water dispenser outside. No bike-rack, so tied our bikes off on a railing.
I'll come back here before Shake...
