This network of libraries doesn't take serious at all the principle of silence. These are community centers but they are also libraries and in them silence should be taken serious. The study rooms have minimal/meaningless noise cancellation panels, and the librarians only passively manage the noise ie. telling patrons to lower their voice when someone complains. Outside of the study rooms is more often quieter than inside the study rooms because people are being permitted to use them to group study, to video conference, or talk on the phone; a total absurdity. Study rooms should be quieter than the library itself because study requires silence, and because chitchat is not study. There are sometimes people playing boardgames in these study rooms who yell and exclaim and can be heard from accross the entire library. Yes, I experienced this at the New Berlin location, and the librarian did nothing at all. This is not acceptable, and the local city councilmembers will hear about it. If the rooms are not properly equipped to isolate noise, YOU MUST NOT PERMIT people to use them for group study, telephone calls, or videoconferencing. Each of these activities must be done in the larger library, and the librarians must accept it, or ban them from the libraries altogether. Tolerance is a...
Read moreVery limited hours, closed far too often, and it doesn't have the book you're looking for. So in the 8 plus years of living in New Berlin, I have visited the library a great deal. I've lived in Green Bay proper, De Pere and Sturgeon Bay and always loved the civil services of a library. While New Berlin library does offer a lot, for the populace it serves, this place is closed far too often. This past holiday season 2016 it was closed 23, 24, 25 and 26. It now is closed Jan 2, 2017. On Fridays, the library is closed at 5 pm. Better get that book on Thursday. Nine of the past 12 books I've recently searched for via their card catalog, are "unavailable" and there is a waitlist--really? For Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them? Two months? This library while the building is beautiful and the location is nice, really needs to work on inventory. Also, they are only open 3 hours on Sunday. Once, while visiting on a Thursday, at 8:30 they began to turn off their lights and usher me and my children out of the building. They were getting ready to close at 9, so in overly exaggerated fashion, began this...

So come on over to the New Berlin Public Library and see all the fun you can have and groups you can join and a very cool art gallery and gift shop.
