It looks like this place is best for standard braiding, I donât recommend getting faux locs here. I didnât have time to visit my usual braider in Queens, so I decided to try this place out since I was in a pinch. Long story short, I will be taking myself back to Queens the next time I need to get my hair done.
I prefer a natural look, so I get natural parts instead of perfect squares, and I leave a generous amount of my edges out to avoid breakage. They were a little confused when I asked for natural parts, and even after I showed them a photo of my hair in the past they didnât quite get it, but they tried their best. My chair wasnât in front of a mirror and I regret not speaking up when they got to my edges. It felt like they had left them out, but when they were done I realized all of my edges were wrapped, so Iâm praying Iâm not bald in a month.
My usual person always uses kinky hair to wrap the locs, but they preferred using their own straighter hairâŚwhich they would burn to âsealâ the style. I would not recommend this place for faux locs for that alone, I know itâs 100% possible to have the style last for over a month by wrapping and rolling the kinky hair over the locs. I just got home and the top parts of the locs look awful with the burnt edges sticking out.
They were also a little rushed and rude at the end. They literally tossed the excess hair all over my lap and loads of stray wrapping hair was still on my head when they were done. They werenât particularly gentle with my hair which defeats the purpose of getting a protective style, and when I got home I realized they didnât even part my hair down the middle for the top section like I asked (and again, showed them in photos), so it looks wonky. My trip is in a few days, and I honestly want to cry and take these locs out.
I guess the best comparison is going to a nail tech vs the neighborhood nail salon. One is super skilled and knows their craft, and the other primarily does simple, fast designs for the most amount...
Read moreI made the mistake of not getting my hair braided by the person who braided my hair the first time. Or else I wouldnât have come back. I got to the salon early, around 8:30am (as I was told to), hoping to leave around 1:00pm, however, I left well after 6:00pm. The hairstyle I wanted was very typical (short knotless braids) but the woman who was braiding me not only took a long time, but complained about the length of my natural hair being too short. Mind you, my first experience getting my hair braided here, my hair was way shorter and there was no issue. She was hesitant to begin and only really started when she got assistance from another braider. Eventually, there was some disagreement between the woman who was braiding my hair and the woman she asked assistance from, resulting in them re-doing multiple plaits, setting me back severely. I should have left at this point, but I was determined to get my hair done and trust the process. By the end, my middle part was not in the middle, the ends were not properly done/finished, and I ended up leaving with a style that I did not want or suit me. They gave me a discounted price which I thought was still too much, but I also wanted to compensate them for their time spent. Unfortunately, I donât think I will be back again, which is a bummer because I thought I found my place. I am left trying salvage my hair and some trust issues. I also recognize where I could of made smarter choices. Ultimately, I am...
Read moreDO NOT GO HERE!!!! TERRIBLE!!! So unprofessional . I asked for hair cornrow in the front and braids in the back for sew in . I did let her know I will do the sewin myself . Even showing her a picture. Once she told me the price i left and came back with the money.
Once in the chair I inquired and asked how much is it to do the style shown in the picture which was cornrow in the front and a sewin in the back to save myself some time she told me $180 and i agreed. I had to correct the styles twice. Braid were bulky on one side and the back braids were not connected. The stylist did no know what she was doing. when it came to sewing in the hair she took the hair out the pack and attempted to start the sew in. Again it was clear that stylist DID NOT KNOW WHAT THEY WERE DOING !! I thanked her for the cornrows at the front and paid the $90.
Clearly they like to play in peopleâs head. sew in braids were looses granny plaits. That were not proper enough for a sewing.
I went back to the the shop to show the braided /owner the braids to where NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED AND ONLY BLAME !!
The owner is money hungry and cannot take any sort of accountability. After going back to the shop she then LIED and claimed she did the back for free when i had asked for the back back to be done initially. $90 down the drain to braid my natural hair...
