Allerton Fish Market — Attraction in New York

I have been to this fish market several times since the one in my neighborhood ( Buhre Ave Fish Market) is a food poisoning in the making. Anyway, Allerton Fish Market is small but there quick and efficient. When you enter there is a place to steam/fry (??) seafood and further in is where you can purchase fish. They have all the standard fish (Blue & Red Snapper, Yellow Tail, Porgies, Whities, Shrimp, Crabs, etc.) They even had large fish heads!!! As I selected my whole fish I wanted the guy behind the counter asked me did I want them cleaned? I say yes, and remove the heads. He promptly weighed my fish, told me the price, and gave them to the guys in the back to have them cleaned. I selected 2 filets as well those were weighed and I was told the price for my entire purchase. By the time I completed my purchase, the place was packed with people. This guy was assisting everyone with their purchase. Now this is customer service!!! The seafood is always covered in ice and there is hardly any sort of "fish" smell. I had to take a star off because of the dirty mop bucket out in plain view of customers. Please Allerton Fish Market owners don't have that out. It is really gross.

Admittedly, Allerton Fish Market has virtually no competition around this area. The one around the corner on White Plains Rd., ah yea, that looks shady as hell. There used to be a fish market on Allerton Avenue further up the block across the street but they closed years ago.

I hope this fish market stays for as long...

First I would like to say, I love this place. It’s my go to for steamed crab legs. Salmon shrimp , vegetables it’s amazing the spices are so well put in. All the workers are very nice and they also make sure you leave happy.

I remember one time I went in. There was a lady who was being very rude and racist because her EBT wasn’t working and I remember she was saying she was in some famous show and her name was Yasmin some love and hip hop b.s lol never even heard of this show. At the end when my food was ready, the workers were still being nice to her even after her racist rant, when in reality it was discovered she didn’t have any funds left in her Ebt And she was trying to score a free meal. This woman had to be escorted out and I’m glad I was able to see it happen as I was departing. I would like to say please disregard her comment about the review, this world is full of shady people but you will never come across such an amazing fish market like this one. ONE IN A MILLION !!! Been coming here for years now and I hope I never move...
