This has been my neighborhood arts/craft store for years. It was nice to know that I didn’t have to go all the way to Blick to grab supplies or break the bank there. It was also nice to know that I could save where I could with the student discount, being a student and artist is EXPENSIVE! I went today looking for journals, pens & stationary for school. The store was BARREN. I managed to scrounge up some things, many things I begrudgingly picked up because of the lack of selection. Once it was time to pay, I was informed they got rid of the student discount which was an additional blow to the experience. The only saving grace was William, at least he hasn’t changed.
*In response to the owner, thanks for reaching out. However, the beauty of the student discount was that it was an "as needed" system. If you needed to buy supplies, they were immediately discounted. Whereas, with loyalty programs, you have to spend an arbitrary amount of money before you have access to a usually menial discount. That's not a consolation prize I'm...
Read moreI went to Artist & Craftman Supply today located at 1449 Broadway in Brooklyn, NY. to purchase a crochet needle. I do not recall the name of the associate who assisted me (she appeared to be african american, low hair cut and had a very friendly smile.) She was extremely friendly, approachable, patient, kind and did her best to assist me in my selection.
Pro: +They have a great variety and range to options. +To my knowledge they are the only one's in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. It's close to public transportation and parking was extremely convenient.
Con: Prices were slightly higher than other art's and craft stores in Brooklyn However, I was able to use my student discount.
Conclusion: I will definitely return to this particular location for all my craft needs because I enjoy supporting the neighborhood shops and I enjoy spending my money in an establishment that values me as a customer.
I am also looking forward to attending one of their upcoming workshops in the near future. I give this place 5 stars because...
Read moreLove this art store. As close as it gets to Pearl Paint. I've both dated myself and those who new Pearl Paint, just had flashbacks. If your looking to create on paper, canvas, walls or clothing, this chain has it. Michael's doesn't come close, Blick almost there, Jerry's Artorama nails it but there's none in NYC. Lee's art shop has always been pricy but they're closing or have closed. Davinci, great prices and discounts but have closed and are getting a second life merging with Print Icon so maybe more locations will open again, and a few other niche spots are gone in NYC. Artist and Craftsman has great prices, lots of variety, very helpful staff and the right atmosphere to browse and get inspired. They have the Pearl Paint vibe for those who know and remember that mega store that was on Canal. Digital media has replaced many conventional tools, but what can't be...
