Fun place to do a lot. I come mostly for films but I’ve also heard some great music here. Nice staff, drinks of all kinds available, and good vibes in the crowd. Impressed with the kinds of stuff they curate. I recently saw a showing of three rare James Baldwin films and was blown away. BAM is the best of Brooklyn.

BAM nurtures me. I usually attend shows of artists who I know but sometimes I just pick a random artist that I never heard of. BAM never fails me. It brings to Brooklyn and NY art from all over the world. What an opportunity to stop navel gazing.

Fantastic venue for movies and other productions. The venue staff are all very friendly. Plus now they serve beer and wine and tasty treats from Sweetly Brooklyn. Full disclosure: My wife is the owner of Sweetly Brooklyn. 😌

The Brooklyn Academy of Music is a gorgeous performance and event space. From the first floor where you enter to the second floor where the bar and restrooms are, to the third floor to get to the "nosebleeds", it's beautifully designed.

Let me tell you, seeing Anthony Bourdain from the third mezzanine wasn't a problem at all. It was as if he were way closer given the sound system and overall acoustics. The theater is not too big, it's not too small, it's just right. :)

I'm looking forward to return and hang out in the second floor bar area, beautifully lit with pretty windows and decor making it the perfect location to take a new profile photo.

If you can, step back before entering to enjoy the gorgeous lines and details of...

It is a historic multi-arts center featuring a stunning array of films, HD Met screenings, live performances, etc. The seats in some of the theaters, however, are as close and uncomfortable as those on a budget airline. Even sitting on an aisle is difficult as the seats are so narrow that one can not easily turn to swing one's legs to the side. Unless you are no more than 5'10" or so, you could be in for a rough experience. People have grown taller since the 5'6" average height at the time of the 1906 opening. Revenue considerations notwithstanding, adjustments might...

Entering the opera house is like taking a step back in time. The architecture is beautiful and well maintained. There's a definite feel of history, of those coming to see a performance many years ago (except for the fact that on a Thursday night for the opera, many people were dressed in jeans).

Sitting in the obstructed seats definitely impacted my view of The Turn of the Screw. Although, that's what one gets for purchasing the cheap seats. 80% of the show was...
