Today I went shopping at Costco with my friends. When I checked out, the cashier told me that my membership card had expired and asked me to renew it immediately, otherwise I would not be able to buy things. I said I will go in a while, can you let me pay first now, but she said no with a cold face. Then my friend had already paid the bill and was waiting for me in front. I asked my friend to pay the bill for me and use her membership card. The cashier said wait a minute! Then she called another female employee to come over. The female employee told me that I had to update it immediately or I couldn't buy anything. I said I know, I will update later, I asked my friend to buy it for me, the women said no! I asked her why not? If you think this is not possible, then I will ask my friend to go in and re-queue and pay again. Is it okay for her to pay with her own membership card and credit card? Can Costco members only shop once a day? She replies "no" to me repeatedly. Then I was about to complain, so I asked her what's your name, she told me it was "Mellissa" and said she would call someone else to negotiate with me, after a minute a male manager came and said you can not ask your friend to check out the bill for you, because the invoice cannot be torn in half. I said I understand what you mean. I didn't do that. I also said that I came to Costco last week. I used my membership card in the self-checkout area and checked out three times because I brought things for my friend. "We can't actually do that," he said. The problem is I didi it, and a lot of people did it, and have done it for years since I came to the US in 2012! You have not announced that you cannot do this. What is the problem with the card I use and my separate billing? I didn't use other people's cards! I asked him "If my friend bought it at Costco today, is it okay for her to come to Costco to buy it again in the afternoon?" Go in and line up to buy something once (it's just my stuff) and then she comes out to pay with her own membership card and credit card? Why can't it work! Only another employee and this male manager told me that we will check your things here now, so you don't have to go in and queue up! I tried to complain about the female manager, but the official website gave me a number that could not be connected to the after-sales service complaint. I live in staten island, and I had a very unpleasant shopping experience at Costco on the island today. The female manager is called...
Read moreWith this pandemic, we have been staying home and do local grocery runs at smaller markets. But today, we went to get some things in bulk and headed to Costco. They try their best with the social distancing (floor markings inside and outside) and say they santize the carts that are parked in front of the warehouse (though we didn't see them cleaning it). They also have cart lane traffic instructions both inside and outside of warehouse which is a plus. So it felt completely new with all these instructions and restrictions. My family and I have been coming here ever since they opened and never had a big issue here until today. We waited outside for only 10 mins to get in, very quick. If you know this warehouse, they have an enclosed area before the actual entrance to the inside. They usually check your membership card on the inside. So as we were approaching the entrance to the enclosed area, we pass an associate answering a customer's question. We weren't aware he was the one checking membership cards esp since we were used to having them check inside. So we walked pass him (big and tall), and he yells, "hello?!?!" in a very condescending tone. As we were about to take it out, he yells, "just go in, just go in!" again in a condescending tone and scuffs. Mind you, I had my wallet in my hands so it would've been quick. And let me point out that he let 2 of us in without thoroughly cgecking out membership cards. As we headed in, I told my father I'd catch up to him. I went to go find that associate to get his name. He wasn't around but I saw another associate who worked there and asked if he saw the associate manning the entrance. He answered me, "somewhere, why?". I told him exactly what happened. I knew this guy had no real interest in what I had to say. He told me that I am supposed to show my card when heading in. I told him that he should've approached it more professionally. For ex: a simple, "membership card, please". It was inappropriate and unnecessary. I was right, the associate I was speaking to had no interest in hearing me out. He took another customer's inquiry while I was talking to him and pretty much dismissed me. His tag read "Robert - front supervisor". Btw, there is a 2 carton of eggs limit...
Read moreWe recently had our brand new van hit in the parking lot by a entire train of carts that Costco's employee was driving past our car while we were waiting for a parking spot to become avail. (As the person was loading their car) The employee saw us standing waiting for the spot when he pulled the entire row of cars next to us. Instead of waiting for us to move into the spot he proceed to try to make the turn down the parking row isle with his carts. He was 20 feet a head of us when the motorized unit that was pushing the carts with shifted the rear of the line of carts right into our new van and dragged the carts along the side of our car. The clueless cart worker didn't even stop. It shook out car and I jumped out to let him know to stop that he was hitting our van. He arrogantly tried to deny he hit our car even though he was nowhere near our car when the train of carts hit our cart. We went inside where the management lead us to believe that they we're going to take care of the damages so I didn't call the police. The manage comes out to take pictures of the van and lines up the cart with our van and acknowledges that the damage could have been from his carts but says one of the scratches couldn't have been from there cart. Well long story short today we get a call from the insurance company stating that they are not accepting responsibility for the damages because the manager now stated that none of the damage could have been caused by their cart, also they said their employee denied the accident (shocking) and magically their camera could not see what happened in the parking lot where we were. I can't believe how Costco and their management is conducting themselves and not taking responsibility for their employees actions. Unbelievable that I a long time customer who has spent thousands of dollars in their store can be treated this way. Our van was brand new and now has scratches down the side and they don't want to accept responsibility. Your management is a joke and I along with anyone can come in contact with will not use this Costco again if I can help it. Terrible...
