I have been a member since the gym opened in 2015. Good value for the price! Mark is a spectacular trainer, unlike some others who are on their phone texting while training. Why is that even allowed? The only problem is # of machines that are not maintained and left needing a fix for weeks or even months. Why charge a $60 maintenance fee and not even maintain the gym properly?
Update: the hydro massage machine is almost always not functioning properly and the weights are almost never put in place, several members are also misusing the cables slamming the weights. I have also noticed chalked up dumbbells and barbells left uncleaned. I have emailed management and have also spoken to them in person but didn't see change or response. The class schedule is also not updated leaving many of us confused. This gym could be so much better if just a few basic things were maintained.
Update 1/10/2021 The class studio room is very inconsistent with temperature. Sometimes freezing cold with door/window open and sometimes both closed with heat on. Hard to dress accordingly. Also no wipes in class or outside in the evening time. Much needed for safety because of pandemic. Have also noticed the studio floor left uncleaned many times. There is no control of people walking into class and disrupting it. Why not lock the class door after class starts like other Crunch locations?
Update 1/23/22 We have had consistent interruptions during classes. People just walk in and interrupt the class about 3-4 times per class in the evenings. Phones have gone off during class with no one even bothering to turn them off. Why are the doors left unlocked during classes? Other crunch locations lock them.
Update 8/12/22 Its almost 80 degrees in the studio class room during peak summer heat. Hydro massage bed still hasn't been fixed. One is completely out and the other barely works. There are still constant interruptions during classes with people walking in and interrupting the class.
Update 11/15/22 Hydro massage is finally fixed but it overheats and shuts down if used back to back with diff people. Classes are still regularly interrupted by walk-ins. Come on guys. How hard is it to enforce this simple rule?
Update 2/25/23 hydro massage chair is out of service again 🤦♂️. Yoga instructors are forced to play music during class by the manager because one person complained. One of the purpose of yoga to gain mindfulness and with constant audio stimulation it beats the purpose. There is also a safety hazard because it's hard to hear the instructor in the back when music is playing especially for new attendees that can injure themselves.
Update 5/20/23 hydro massage chair reeks off sweat. Barely functional, leaks water, and shuts down before the session ends.
Update 9/9/23 Dumbbells are always a maze. No enforcement to put the weights back in place. Poorly maintained equipment and no restocking of paper towels in basement. We still get interrupted by randoms walking in during class and disrupting us.
Update 11/25/23 There have been some improvements. There is a class in session sign in front of the door now when classes are in session. Hydro bed has been working but its not at a 100%. Other issues remain as is.
Update 12/23 After leaving consistent regular critical and constructive feedback here (along with attempts to speak to mgt which were also ignored) I was banned from the gym by the manager without even a conversation for apparently leaving a bad review. No attempt to even speak to me. I found out at the front desk when I scanned my card. On top of that I was still charged for the month and the $60 maintenance fee afterwards. Disgraceful move to treat a member of 9+ yrs like this. Clearly shows that the gym cares more about the $ then their members. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else instead.
Update 2/23/24
Things have gotten much better with improvements after the new GM named Andrew. I had a conversation with him about everything and its starting to look good....
Read moreI work in Manhattan and therefore have to go to the gym at 5am on the weekdays. Since I have a long commute, every minute of my workout from when the gym opens counts. There have been several days now where myself and other members have had to wait outside for almost half an hour before being let into the gym. We call the front desk and no one answers. That is a huge waste of time for those of us who need it.
My schedule doesn’t permit me to go to the gym in the evening, where it is also difficult to use equipment because it becomes very busy.
Please look into why there have been issues opening the gym at 5am. Thank you.
Edit: 06/22/2023 — Myself and many other morning gym members have waited outside from 5am-5:30am so far. Still, nobody has come outside to let us in, and the lights appear to be off. It is unclear if the gym is even open, but there is no sign indicating this, and none of us got email alerts. I usually have to leave by around 6:15am, so I officially cannot workout now and have to go home. Many of us who waited have chosen to go home.
Edit: 07/08/2023 — Today is a Saturday morning when the gym is supposed to open at 7am. Currently, there is a long line of members waiting outside. Marta, one of the personal trainers, informed us that the gym will not open for another half hour or so. It would be courteous to at least let members know of any delays.
Edit 04/10/2024 — It’s been over a year since my last review but just wanted to provide an update. It is a Wednesday morning when the gym is supposed to open at 5am. We were let in around 5:47am.

Read morePersonal trainer - Elvedin Zeneli
Today (Saturday, Aug 16) in the afternoon I had the opportunity to work with Elvedin Zeneli, a new personal trainer at Crunch, Bay Street, Staten Island. It was an exceptional experience. He came over to me and introduced himself and offered some suggestions. In our interaction, I found Elvedin remarkably well-informed, very well-read, talented, charming, personable, intelligent, focused, very patient, sharply observant, attentive and with excellent communication and guidance skills.
In the time I spent with him today, I learned a lot from him and he has helped me reset and rethink my focus on some of the things I need to work on. He was quick on his feet yet very patient. He maintained a steady flow and pace which was comfortable for me and yet, very effective. He explained every move in detail and it's far-reaching benefits.
His prior experience, interest and career ambitions in the medical field coupled with his personal training qualifications makes him very well-skilled at quickly recognizing "what needs to be worked on?" and "how best to fix it?". I was very impressed by him and enjoyed my interaction with him today. I highly recommend Elvedin to anyone who is seeking a personal trainer with the qualities I have already stated above.
I am departing from Crunch after some years due to personal reasons otherwise, I would have certainly entrusted Elvedin with my fitness goals. If you are looking for a good and very capable personal trainer - go with Elvedin. He will surely prove to be an asset. It was a pleasure working out with Elvedin today and I wish him...
