it was unclear where to meet. Should have been told to meet at ferry terminal. We were told to line up and was supposed to board at 10:30. There was no air and it was very hot. It would have been ok if we boarded when we were supposed to but because of where they decided to leave from it didn't leave till closer to 12. When the boat finally was allowed to dock I think it was the president that told everyone to hurry and move to the other side of the dock which was unsafe. I almost tripped over someone. Then they had to put the walkway to the top off the boat to board. The boat was not steady and a couple times they had to shift it so it would stay. I ran up because I was afraid of falling over. When I got to the top I was told to stop because the old man in front of me dropped something.. He wouldn't move so I told him to move. He turned to me yelling and calling me names and insulting me.. Then his wife joined in. It made me furious and then some one told me it was the paper map they gave out. They promised we would do the entire route but they left out princess bay and great beds which was on the list advertised. Couldn't see elm tree and states island range but I was ok with that.. Then we were told that we had to get back by 3:20 and we missed that time so we didn't get off till 4:30. We were told to wait on first floor but there was no air there and it was oppresive. She kept apologizing and saying it wasn't their fault but it was. They did not check it out to see if there was this problem of ferries getting top priority. I have been on hundreds of boat rides and this was the worst. This was unprofessional and unsafe to board. People around me were also very unhappy. I came from a long distance to do this boat and I was very...

It was my first time here with a small group of people who are pretty decent but have trouble with speech. ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿ˜” But that's okay. ๐Ÿ˜ I got to have my experience without having any trouble whatsoever and that i was more verbal with the tour guide than anyone. ๐Ÿ‘ When I got there the gate was locked...padlocked.๐Ÿ”’ at first I was really disappointed. I was really upset because I was really looking forward to going into the lighthouse museum to see it opened but it wasn't.๐Ÿ˜ That is when a lady came up to us and found out that it was the tour guide for the place.๐Ÿ˜€ The schedule hours did say they was going to open up at 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday. I'm guessing they were a little late and we assume the worst. But anyway we got in there, have fun and it was like $3 for admission touring the place. We learned about its history and what lighthouses do. I also found out that this place was next to the ferry terminal and beneath empire outlets. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿšขโ›ด๏ธ They also said that it had abandoned buildings near there. Those buildings used to be stations from a long time ago. They told us that they also do tours to see lighthouses in the summertime.๐ŸŒž I might want to come back here for The full experience because this was pretty good history for lighthouses. It was foggy and raining like cats and dogs after we left. All of the lights in the museum lit up when it got dark for...

The people working here really make the difference. Iโ€™ve been to many museums in the city and this one has some of the most pleasant and passionate staff, who would welcome you with drinks and cookies and then give you a wonderful tour. They were knowledgeable and patient with questions.

The museum is small and a visit should last no more than an hour. In a few years, however, they are moving to a bigger building nearby to house their extensive collection.

The museum is not particularly well-known, even to locals, and largely depends on word-of-mouth recommendations to attract visitors. They could really use a well-funded and wide-reaching promotional campaign.

If youโ€™re arriving via the Staten Island Ferry, turn left at the ferry terminal building and then go one level down. Upon exiting the building, there is a narrow walk path that connects directly...

A fun and fascinating museum, the National Lighthouse Museum is only a short walk from the St. George Staten Island Ferry Terminal. The museum offers a brief but engrossing history of lighthouses in the US, as well as a collection of miniature lighthouses from around the world and through history. The dedicated staff is friendly and explained the layout of the museum. Even the restroom is on point with a lighthouse theme! As of May 2023, it's a smaller institution which makes it a fairly quick but enjoyable visit. The lovely views of the Verrazano Bridge and the narrows from the nearby park are an added bonus.

I love lighthouses! But this is not a lighthouse converted to a museum. Instead, it is the national lighthouse depot that assembled French-made lens into lamps, fog horns, toilet paper holders, and whatever lighthouses needed. They are still in hopes for the restoration of the foundry and other buildings. The 4 minute film is informative, and the miniatures of many lighthouses were fun for me because I have visited more than one. If you ride the free Staten Island Ferry, it is just a few blocks away, then hop back on the ferry to get back to the Battery Park area.
