On Thursday, December 12 we had the pleasure of being invited to see a special showing of The Christmas Show. From my understanding the theater was filled with special needs individuals and mentally challenged individuals as well as their caregivers. My mother and mother in law belong to a very special group called the ACT program, an adult day care center. My mother in law has dementia, it is a challenge. My mother is perfectly fine and hours loves to go to this program. As we entered the theater we were greeted by kind, loving people. Al Pica was one person who helped us in. As we entered where we were sitting we were approached by Ushers Jackson and Ricky. Two of the kindest young adults. There empathy towards my mother in law and her needs was so beautiful to see. They both went above and beyond with helping me out. Making sure the wheelchair was secured, helping me with sitting my mother in law in the very comfortable chair for the show. Taking the wheelchair to a different spot so I didn’t have to leave her alone. Asking if we needed anything. As the show was coming to an end there they were again. By the way we weren’t the only people in the theater that needed help. I watched them, their energy and politeness and pleasant attitudes were so refreshing. And the Christmas show was AMAZING. The props, backgrounds and sets were more beautiful than the next. The actors and dancers were exceptional. I highly recommend the show and venue. The venue is so clean and pretty. All of the staff there for every event I have ever been to have been polite and happy to help and...
Read moreAs many have already stated, this is a great old venue, that is ever evolving as the restoration process continues and improvements are made. Like any venue, some seats are good, some are bad and some are great. Depending on the importance of the show to you, that will "drive" your desire you spend $$$$ for better quality seats. Also, like any other venue, it's a "first-come, first-served" environment so if you want those coveted seats, you gotta be at your keyboard, logged-in and ready to go, when the tickets go on sale, for at least a "shot" at getting good seats, with NO guarantees you'll get what you want, if it is a really popular event.
The only "downside" this writer has observed is "behind the scenes" where management subtly takes any type of negative comment or criticism or suggestion and develops an "attitude" with an almost "how dare you" or "anything else?" type of posture, rather than being professional and accepting your input and thanking you for it, whether or not they agree or ever intend to address it. Not sure if this is due to stress (on their part) or they just think they know it all and do not need any help or advice from the venue-going public. This is my OPINION, just putting it out there, for...
Read moreThis past weekend I joined hundreds of families at the Christmas spectacular at the St. George Theatre on Staten Island. From the moment I entered, I was caught up in the beauty and grandeur of this beautifully restored venue with its rich Italian and Spanish Baroque architecture.
In no rush to find our seats, our family was caught up in the decor as we walked through the first floor only to find the second floor equally as impressive, even the restrooms made you feel like royalty.
Then the show began, our balcony seating (the show was sold-out) had a wonderful view of Vinnie Medugno and an exceptional line of dancers, acrobats, singers, and performers as they infused the audience with the Spirit of Christmas while Vincent Innocente, one of our favorite Island performers was on hand to share his velvety voice.
As I entered, I met Luanne Sorrentino at the door to welcome guests as Doreen Cugno was on hand to share the history of the Theater, her mother's passion for the venue, and thank everyone for being part of the celebration, but in honesty, we should be thanking her.
Don't wait for Christmas to visit the St. George Theatre the concerts, comedians, performances, and celebrations are all magical...
