CubeSmart Self Storage of Brooklyn — Attraction in New York

I am uneasy about my continuing renting a unit at this location. My recent experiences at this location, specifically in relation to one of the staff. In this review I would like to express my concerns about potential discriminatory treatment.

Firstly, I would like to mention that I find the overall quality of the location to be fairly decent. However, it is regrettable that my interactions with the General Manager, Mr. Brian, have been far from pleasant or welcoming. I have noticed that he consistently exhibits a condescending attitude towards me, which has made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.

To illustrate my point, I would like to share a particular incident that occurred recently. Due to a change in my card details, I had to update the payment method for my unit. When I I received a call from Mr. Brian to discuss and update the payment method, he not only made snide remarks but also threatened to evict me from my unit. This was an extremely alarming response, especially considering that it was merely a payment-related issue.

Furthermore, during our conversation, I began to realize Mr. Brian was making my disputes with him were personal and even insinuated that some members of the staff were not fond of me. It is disheartening to believe that such animosity might exist based on personal biases, particularly considering that I am a person of color and Mr. Brian is a white male. I cannot help but perceive this as a potential case of discrimination, which greatly concerns me.

As a customer, I believe it is essential to address these issues as they not only impact my experience but also the overall reputation of your establishment. Discrimination, in any form, is completely unacceptable and goes against the principles of fairness and equality.

I kindly request that you investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate actions to ensure that such incidents do not occur again. It is important for all staff members, including Mr. Brian, to understand the significance of treating every customer with respect and professionalism, regardless of their background...

After an unexpected bicycle breakdown (brakes stopped working) forced me to stay at my storage unit a few minutes past closing, the janitor came by my cube and started berating me and harassing me to leave. This happened mid-repair, which pulled focus away from the emergency fix and further delayed my exit.

I am currently keeping all my possessions here while sleeping on friend's couches. This means that the timing often only allows me to stop by just before closing. This is not the first time I have been harangued by this janitor during close-out. It's hard already making this arrangement work, and it's just that much more unpleasant to deal with his terrible attitude on the way out.

PROS: Staff is pretty friendly (except when it comes to shooing people out before closing). They offer a free truck & driver service to assist move-in, which is great.

CONS: Storage access is only during business hours. Facility claims to close 15 minutes before the posted time on the front door. The music playing in the background can become maddeningly...

This CubeSmart location is by far the best - for its size, options, and consistent cleanliness, but more importantly, its customer service and management. Brian, the General Manager, is kind, friendly, and goes above and beyond for his customers — I’ve experienced this first-hand with every interaction for years, and have seen him deliver great support to other customers, and CubeSmart employees, as well. The gentleman who maintains the facilities is just as passionate as Brian is in delivering exceptional service. Both he and Brian clearly take great pride in what they do - ensuring a great environment for all - and it means a lot to be welcomed by them when we go. In fact, this year, I considered switching locations because we have moved a bit further out, but after visiting other CubeSmarts in the area, we decided we will stay; this location is just the best of them all.
