When I walked into Kaya Bliss, the first licensed Cannabis dispensary in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, a large smile came on my face… Cannabis had been legal in New York for a few years, but most of the bodegas and shops were not Gov. sanctioned and were closed down; it wanted its taxes, after all.
More to the point, the lineage started with medical marijuana, especially for specific health benefits like getting a good night sleep or feeling relaxed, pain control, and lowering the blood pressure.
I note that with my nickname of “Kush”, since I was a kid, playing in a rock band in the 1960’s, now a “senior” with an official old guy card, I had waited patiently so I could go into a place in my nab.
In this place I feel like the candy store has been upgraded for grown ups, with a place I can now just buy something that makes me smile.
Kaya Bliss has a collection of top shelf ---make you smile --products that have names like vapes, concentrates, gummies, flowers,-- CBD, THC, indica, sativa, , etc. to delight the palette of the body, mind, and to enjoy, finally, and legally with friends..
And good thing that the Kaya Bliss staff greets you to start you off in this new yet confusing world- but, I gravitate to a display in the main room where there is a display of ‘buds’ -- where you can see and smell the massive collection with names from the past, like Sour Diesel and Runtz to other crazy names like Cheese and Chong…and did I mention OG Kush? -- What will they think of next?
For the uninitiated, especially us seniors, (smirk), the staff is friendly, very knowledgeable and -- well, they are Brooklyn, they are Bay Ridge… a style that is not too cool, or hippy dippy, or a factory, like some of the other shops I visited, and they are within walking distance’; no car service or Uber or subway ride into the city.
And, to be frank, there have been those loud grand-standers who doth protest about these dens to purchase delights, claiming that there are harms to our neighborhood or our children.
First, there is no smoking, etc in the dispensary; this talk is just disingenuous hogwash. As I walk down the avenue, about 14 blocks, there are 17 restaurants and/or bars that serve hard liqueur, beer, etc. -- (great food and drinks from Irish, Italian, Indian, Syrian, Polish, Mexican and Chinese) 4 liquor stores and 22 places, bodegas to Walgreens, to buy craft beer. In fact, alcohol and cigarettes have has been the ‘gateway’ drugs.
Bottom line -- What does Kaya Bliss mean? I think it means that when I leave my smile is larger, and add a bit of-- dare I say it --joy and bliss? This has been decades in the making and this feels like Brooklyn, and family, that they treat you with respect and try to make you enjoy what is now legal.
And. as Kush, I feel lucky they chose the Ridge, in the shadow of the Verrazzano Bridge, and I feel sorry for all those who don’t have a Kaya Bliss where they...
Read moreThis dispensary normally has a great selection with quick & great customer service, however, I had a really weird interaction with one of their female staff members during my visit yesterday (7(7/25 @ ~6pm) that I wanted to share since I got an email asking for a review.
I was a walk in client yesterday, used the store kiosks to place my order. In prior visits the store had a line but yesterday it was pretty slow with no line. As soon as I placed my kiosk order, 30 seconds later a male worker behind the counter calls my name since the order is ready. I tell him I need to finish my payment on Dutchie, & he told me no worries & to show him the proof of payment when I was done so he could hand it over. As soon as I pay thru Dutchie, a customer joins the line & a female worker from the floor practically sprints to get behind the counter, past the male worker. She calls the next customer to which I explain I paid, she asks if I'm a pick up customer and the male worker responds that my product was already picked I just need to show proof of payment. The customer even said it was fine for them to finish up my transaction. The female worker froze for a moment, looked at me & said "I'm going to take the next person in line" & waved the customer over. The customer apologized to me before proceeding, the male worker looked puzzled and apologized, too. I waited patiently until they were done, the female worker called me over & the male worker joined to apologize again so she could hear it, I said "not your fault." She was stone faced and asked if I wanted a bag, I had enough of speaking with her already so I nodded no and left.
I still dont know what would cause her to refuse my service the way she did. I've been using this dispensary as my go-to but may have to reconsider going if she's behind the register again, I dont know what experience I'm going to have now considering there was literally no rhyme or reason for the weirdness, even her coworker...
Read moreOverall excellent experience. No steps to enter. Walker fit easily through the door and all areas of the store. I did not feel cramped or overwhelmed by the layout. I alerted security I wanted help opening the door, the man hopped up and assisted me into the store (I’m weak from infusion therapy today.) The Staff is nice. Not overeager if you know what I mean, the product does sell itself. Tonight however, I wanted help help, it came in the form of a wingless angel named Steven. He assisted me with 3 whole flower packs, 3 preRoll and one edible- I didn’t want to tax my brain with thinking. He came ready with the recommendations- I wanted something extra to knock me out, something to make me giggly and something to attend a black tie event and not be sloppy. They were able to fill this request. Dank, ElectraLeaf, DoobieLabs, jackalope Farms, Rolling Green, and the Mike Tyson Ear candy because I was feeling both nostalgic and ironic. Ear me out, I think it helped with nerve pain quickly. Punny or not, I had a great experience. Thank you Edgar for the complimentary lighter. They also carry cute bougie items like a snake ring clip holder, ashtrays, etc. may go back for the snake ring, 💯 returning for the...
