Shout out to Crystal, the Front Desk Agent. Great customer service. Friendly and helpful.
I stayed at this hotel on Dec 18th 2024 to the 19th. I loved the hotel. Loved the hotel staff, specifically, Crystal and Mark. The breakfast was not too bad, the room was clean and spacious for a NY hotel. However, the management is TERRIBLE. Beyond TERRIBLE. Before reaching the location, while on the way to the hotel, I was rudely contacted by a female manager who told me they would cancel my reservation if I do not pay immediately. I had to pull over on I-95 just to make a payment, because I did not want to come to the hotel and not have a room. It's now Jan 8th 2025, and I still haven't received the deposit that was held by the hotel. I contacted my bank, they responded in writing that the hotel did not settle the transaction. As a hotel manager myself, I know that some hotels take a while to settle transactions, but it's usually the bank that takes time releasing the funds. During the month, I contacted both the bank and the hotel, each saying that the other is responsible. That's not the issue for me, because working in hospitality for 30 years, I understand. The issue is that today when I called, just to ensure that they did indeed release the funds because the bank was adamant and even asking me to get a written verification from the hotel, I was greeted by Mark on the phone who eventually transferred me to the general manger, Naji, who greeted me rudely and started to ridicule me stating rudely and arrogantly (Aren't you a hotel manager, don't you know these things etc). I tried to explain to him everything that was going on and he wouldn't even let me speak, I ended up having to hang the phone up on him. This is very unprofessional. I am not certain how he became a general manager or if he was lying to me that he was the general manager, but he's definitely lacking in customer service and needs extensive training on how to solve issues. If this matter with the management at this location is not addressed, it will trickle down to Mark,...
Read moreWhile in town for a funeral, my family and I lodged at the Avid hotel. I reserved two rooms using my name and credit card. During booking, there was an option to add another name (not required, optional), which I did, listing another family member's preferred name. We checked in smoothly to both rooms, and my card was charged. Later that evening, upon returning from visiting relatives, we realized we had left the keys to the second room at their house. The manager, Mo, refused to grant us access to the second room because the name on it differed from the one I had listed optionally, despite my presence and payment for both rooms. I reserved and paid for both rooms and was not granted access. Yes, I showed my ID and booking confirmation.
Mo's behavior was extremely rude and his body language intimidating. Despite our pleas and presentation of all relevant documents, he remained obstinate. It's worth noting that Mo himself was using a preferred name, as his full name is Mohamed. When we requested the manager/corporate contact information, he directed us to Google it, then dismissed us abruptly, instructing us to return to our rooms and not bother him further.
Faced with no other option, we had a relative Uber to the hotel with the spare key so that everyone could have a comfortable place to sleep without incurring unnecessary charges for an unoccupied room. Thankfully, we had recorded the interaction, as it was truly unbelievable. Upon speaking with the general manager, Naji, we received an apology and a credit for one night's stay. However, this did little to mitigate the impact of the mistreatment we endured. While the hotel itself was clean and pleasant, our experience with Mo overshadowed any...
Read moreI had a five day stay at this hotel and, overall, it was a very pleasant experience! Rooms are very spacious and, from what we saw, well prepared to accomodate for people with any sort of physical disabilities (including the restroom and shower). Also, the blackout curtain is VERY good; so much so that we almost ran late to our planned activities during the first morning because we thought it was 3 in the morning from how dark our room was (in other words; set your alarms! Unless you want to sleep a lot, then don't).
Another good surprise was the breakfast. It isn't anything from another world, but a healthy variety of offerings, paired with the fact that it's a buffet and has a well set schedule, allows it to feed you enough to get your engine going and boost yourself to start the day.
Also, service is pretty good! Biggest issue we had was that the original card we were going to pay our reservation with didn't go through (despite having enough money in it), which slowed down the whole check-in process. Besides that, however, I've got nothing but praise (there's always someone behind the counter). I'd also like to thank Malika for helping me and my family with our luggage in the last day we stayed here!
As for the location; it's a nice, not too noisy neighborhood just a few streets away from a subway station that you can navigate to travel between a lot of NY, with plenty of restaurants to eat from nearby (also accompanied by a good variety of other shops, if that's what you're looking for!).
Overall, this is a great stay! Highly recommended if you're looking for something not too expensive, comfortable and with good staff service, and if you don't mind walking a bit to the nearest...
