As the family member of a long term resident of this facility and there from the start of this owner taking over we can unequivocally state anyone who truly cares about their loved one needs to seek out alternatives to this poorly managed and utterly poor health care giving facility. There are indeed many staff members who care and want to provide quality care but management's actions have hamstrung these efforts and poor morale exacerbates the problem.. In my personal interactions with supervisors and management from the top down the only words to come to mind are disingenuous and duplicitous. Transparency is never there in how they do things or communicate with residents or even their own staff. So here are some things to ponder. The water fountains on each resident floor are not functioning for several months now, the water tank on roof was condemned we were told by a kind worker. Would a caring facility at least provide those multi gallon containers to hold iced water on each floor? Especially in the hottest times? Good luck because yesterday one of the hottest days this year thus far there were none. Let alone any communication to allow residents and family members not to mention staff to mitigate this issue. Food has gone from very good , if repetitive, to near prison quality. Items expected on the menu which is printed out on a slip on the tray are often not in stock regularly during any given week. Things like yogurt or bananas for instance!!! BANANAS for goodness sake!!! I could literally go on and on for an hour here because of the years of experience with this facility. Bottom line while your short term stay might indeed have a better outcome anyone seeking long term care needs for their loved one really needs to think long and hard about this facility and be willing to be a near omnipresent presence to ensure even a remote chance of any kind of reliable care and even then it will almost always be mostly problems you discover which then begrudgingly get addressed and not even consistently so you have to be on top of it all the time and always remember the weekends are the absolute worst at this place because of staffing issues..Here is something else disturbing about this facility. There is a truly lovely peaceful outdoor garden area in rear of home which under previous owner was available to residents and their family members and even staff on their breaks almost all the time. Presently this wonderful space where you can find respite from the dreary existence of nursing home indoor living is available only 2 hours a day weekdays and 1 hour alone on weekends. Why? The owners are unwilling to adequately staff the nursing home so no one is available for this outdoor lovely garden and therefore residents suffer.
UPDATE: To anyone seeing and reading my review please take note of the "owners" reply they posted underneath my review prompting me to reach out to the home's "top management" administrator Miriam Schenker with whom over the years of her tenure I have already attempted to address many issues but as I mentioned only two words came to mind!!!! Hopefully this resonates with anyone possibly considering this home for their loved one since any owner who cared would have told me contact them personally so that they could deal with any issues brought up.
Update 10/21/2019 Today which was a lovely fall day with warm temperatures we were told back yard was CLOSED after the Jewish holidays on orders of Miriam Schenker , who was absent because it is still Jewish Holidays . So after much hassle the home relented and the backyard was opened for residential use. Now would a caring home close this lovely environment off to its own residents especially when the auditorium where many people can gather is essentially impossible to get to and shortly to be made into an indoor pool? Thats right we learned the home plans to convert this space into an indoor pool for what ever reason and they dont even have the courtesy to apprise residents of...

My mom was supposed to be admitted here for occupational / physical therapy from hospital to regain strength in Fri, but the physician wanted to observe her one more night, so she didn't get admitted until Sat, July 6th, which was a long weekend. The security was aware of my mom's arrival, but the nurses or nurse assistants act like they have never admitted any patients prior. After we arrived, they claimed that they do NOT know my mom's condition, even the hospital discharge papers were right in front of them. They didn't want to help my mom out of wheel chair & were arguing to try to make the tranport personnel to get my mom out of the wheel chair to the patient's bed. They argyed with the transport personnel for 0.5-1.0 hr prior to helping my mom to get onto the patient's bed. The help alarm can be heard throughout the night without stop. She was basically left on this bed until Monday when normal staffs are back from vacation. If they weren't arguing about who's responsibilities to help my mom off to the bed, she could've been assessed for therapy before therapists left for the weekend.
No help for hours after pressing the button for assistance. They wouldn't allow her to walk out of the bed or allow family member to assist her to restroom. They rather to have patients to potty in a diaper or their family to assist with bed pan instead of providing assistance to restroom.
The dining room was nasty. There was water leak & floor was covered with bedding. Food residuals left in refrigerator. They claimed Sat is a cold good night. They served tuna salad, egg salad, lettuce & pop. There were absolutely no kitchen cooked food. Our belongings have been searched & some of our belongs was missing while no one is in the room. No answer Even They said they will go thru the security cameras of the patients' room's hallway. Some of the patients room's A/C didn't work. Luckily, we were able to get my mom discharge without medical advice before the room gets too hot. That day was almost 90 deg.
We were from out of town. They were trying to have my mom's family physician to say she is capable to travel back to our state for recovery when her family physician has not seen her in person after her accident. I don't think the therapist had even seen my mom, since she has been admitted to King David. He wouldn't want to discharge her & claimed that he hasn't even work with her for 1 day while it was already Tue afternoon. My mom has gone thru an assessment on Sun & no judgement of whether she can be assisted by family memeber to use the restroom & stuck with another day in bed of so called recovery. Gone thru maybe 2.5, but less than 3 hrs of combinations of occupational & physical therapies on Mon & Tue afternoon. Each session is less than an hr & one in the morning & one in the afternoon. She almost didn't get her Mon afternoon PT until I asked.
My mom has high blood pressure & they did not provide her medication, since she has...
Read moreHorrible place - beware! My family moved my grandmother into this facility back when it was The Sephardic Home - a welcoming, caring place. As soon as King David took over, it immediately went to garbage. Maybe they spent all their resources on the rehab (which makes them $) as opposed to memory care, but memory care truly became a disgusting place. In the last year of my grandmother's life at King David, they lost her top teeth, lost her glasses, and then when she got sick with a respiratory illness in the winter, they completely ignored it until I screamed at them and my grandmother was going to her death bed. In the last 6 months she was there I walked in on my grandmother soiled with food all over her chest and body 3 separate times - not once did anyone doing anything to help her. When I arrived in January from California, (after a tip call from a staff member - the official nursing staff didn't call our family at all - I flew in as soon as I heard she lost significant weight which they didn't even care about), I found my grandmother in her wheelchair keeled over struggling to breath. No one did anything to help her. The third floor's head nurse Ms. Lopez lied to my face countless times, as did the administration (the Director David told me to call him if there were any issues - clearly this was such for show). The amount of negligence and borderline abuse my grandmother incurred due to horrible staff (there are of course exceptions) will never be forgotten. Until the moment she left, my grandmother was tortured due to their incompetence and disregard. My grandmother was being transported to a hospital and King David called the wrong ambulance service, after they had her all strapped up and ready to go they had to take her off and start all over again. Had I not been there to check where she was going my grandmother could've been shuttling around NYC in ambulances for countless hours with no one having a clue. Stay away. I promised a resident I would write this as she too was struggling and being ill-treated and her children didn't believe how bad it was. Here is my review. Shame...
