LGA is so much better after the big renovation. It seems folks are still disparaging it, but in my opinion, the design, architecture, layout, signage, and brightness are great. The tall daylight windows, openness, and high ceilings help give it a less closed-in and more relaxed feel. Security was super quick and easy. Sure beats the heck out of JFK, which is a hard-to-navigate, antiquated airport. I'll take LGA over JFK anytime.

Updated long-form review LaGuardia Airport (LGA): A Traveler’s Perspective

As a traveler, LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York City offers a unique and evolving experience. Located in Queens, just about 8 miles from Midtown Manhattan, LGA is the closest airport to the city center compared to JFK and Newark. For many, this proximity makes it a convenient choice—especially for business travelers or anyone needing a quick hop into the city.

Overview & Facilities

LGA has undergone a massive multibillion-dollar renovation in recent years, and the improvements are striking. The airport now features sleek, modern terminals with high ceilings, abundant natural light, upgraded restrooms, and improved signage. Terminal B, in particular, feels like a high-end mall or modern transit hub, with water features, local art installations, and a spacious layout.

There are four terminals: A (Marine Air Terminal), B (main terminal), C, and D. Delta dominates Terminals C and D, while American Airlines is a major presence in Terminal B. Terminal A is a small, historic terminal mainly serving smaller carriers like Spirit and Frontier.

Dining & Amenities

The airport has made a big push to upgrade its food and retail options. You’ll find everything from Shake Shack and Dos Toros to Brooklyn Diner and La Chula. Many terminals now offer table-side ordering using iPads at gate-side eateries—something that speeds up dining and charging your phone at the same time.

Free Wi-Fi is widely available, and the new terminals feature plenty of USB ports and outlets at nearly every seat. Some lounges (Delta Sky Club in Terminal C, American’s Admirals Club in B) are brand new and offer a relaxing escape from the busy concourse.

Transportation & Access

Getting to LGA has historically been one of its pain points, but improvements in roadways and the addition of the Q70 SBS bus (which connects to the subway) have helped. There’s still no direct subway line, which remains a key drawback compared to JFK. Rideshares and taxis are abundant, and if you're in Manhattan, you can get to LGA in 25–40 minutes depending on traffic.

Compared to JFK & Other Major U.S. Airports

JFK (John F. Kennedy International Airport): JFK is far larger and more internationally focused. It has more terminals, longer lines, and far more flight options—especially for international travelers. While JFK is better connected to the subway (via AirTrain), it’s about 15 miles from Manhattan and can be a longer, more complex commute. JFK also hasn’t fully caught up to LGA in terms of terminal modernization (though it's in progress), so you might find older facilities and longer walks between gates.

LAX (Los Angeles International Airport): LAX feels bigger and busier, with a reputation for traffic snarls and terminal congestion. Like JFK, it has many international flights, but it can be overwhelming. LGA feels calmer and more curated, especially after renovations.

ORD (Chicago O’Hare): O’Hare is more of a traditional ā€œhubā€ airport, with long concourses and tight connections. It has a better mix of domestic and international flights than LGA. Amenities are comparable, but LGA’s newer spaces might edge it out in terms of comfort and design.

ATL (Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International): ATL is the world’s busiest airport, and it feels like it. It’s efficient and well-connected, but enormous. LGA wins in terms of ease and proximity to the city, but ATL shines for sheer volume and...

This airport excels in several areas, making it a generally pleasant experience for travelers. First and foremost, the variety and quality of food options are impressive. Whether you're in the mood for a quick snack, a hearty meal, or something more gourmet, there are plenty of choices to satisfy any palate. The dining establishments are conveniently located throughout the airport, ensuring that you won't have to wander far to find something to eat.

In addition to the excellent food options, the airport offers a range of entertainment facilities to help pass the time. From comfortable lounges with plenty of seating to well-equipped charging stations for your devices, it's clear that the airport has put thought into making your wait as pleasant as possible. There are also various shops and kiosks where you can browse or buy souvenirs, books, and travel essentials.

Cleanliness is another strong point. The terminals, waiting areas, and restrooms are consistently well-maintained. It's refreshing to see such attention to detail in keeping the environment tidy, which significantly enhances the overall comfort of your time at the airport.

The restrooms, in particular, are notably clean and well-stocked. This is often a neglected area in many airports, but here, the facilities are spotless and regularly serviced, which is a major plus for any traveler.

The staff at this airport are also commendable. They are friendly, approachable, and ready to assist with any inquiries or issues you might have. Their positive attitude contributes to a welcoming atmosphere, making the airport experience much more pleasant.

However, there is a significant drawback that cannot be overlooked: the frequency of flight delays. Almost every time I fly through this airport, there are delays that range from minor to severe. It's incredibly frustrating to have such a consistent issue with timeliness, as it can greatly disrupt travel plans and add unnecessary stress. While the airport excels in many areas, the persistent delays are a major downside that needs to be addressed to improve the...

In summary, the brand-new New York Airport is not just a transit point but an attraction in itself. It's a tribute to the city's diverse cultures, a shopper's dream, a food lover's paradise, and an art lover's delight. Your journey begins the moment you step into this extraordinary airport, making it an unforgettable part of your New...

I was walking through LaGuardia (LGA) looking for some food and couldn't resist checking out Beecher's Handmade Cheese bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for nearly $20. I know airport food is pricey, but come on. It was tasty, but definitely not worth the $18.45. For that price, I could’ve bought a dozen eggs, a pack of bacon, cheese, and a loaf of bread!
