Uptown Veg @Uptown veg 🥦🌶️🍅 Located in East 125th Street, a true Staple for the Vegan Community & African American one also, love that its cultured out from who’s serving you to who’s replenishing the freezer when it runs dry — I’ve been coming here for years and will never stop ✨🌱 Nothing like some Buffet Style Food of your choice, try any smoothie or juice out also, they’re super delicious 🥭🍌🥥🍍

I had high hopes. My first visit, the food was ok. I had the mac and cheese, collard green's, buffalo "chicken", rice and beans and curried potato. The collards were really good. Ate that with the mac and cheese since it needed help. The rice and bean's and curried potato were also good, but the texture of the "chicken" I am not used to and the buffalo sauce wasn't quite ...buffalo, but ok nonetheless had the pineapple tart (delicious) and something that resembled an oatmeal cookie. Again, it was ok. It warranted another visit. SMH I don't know if there was a different cook today; I did see different people, in any case, food should be consistent in flavor when you run a restaurant in NYC. The first clue that should have passed was the curried chickpeas didn't look cooked all the way and they were swimming in something, I don't know what. I was told it was curry. After tasting my meal, I would say it's debatable. I opted for the "seasoned" chickpeas. They were too firm to enjoy. The fork shouldn't have any resistance when skewering a chickpea. I had to apply firm pressure to get it to pierce. The curried potatoes had a hint of curry and the salt was missing. It just tasted like soft bland potatoes colored with curry. The collard green's tasted as though they forgot the vinegar and could use a bit more salt; barely any flavor. The worst was the mac and cheese. There wasn't even an attempt to make it taste like cheese. It was more a macaroni salad. Totally different flavors. I got the barbecue "chicken" this time, but didn't bother trying it. I am too pissed after spending $35 on this meal alone. To add injury, I purchased the pineapple tart, additionally, only find mold on the bottom and of course I am too far away that I can't turn around and bring it to their attention in person 😤 Nearly $40! The only thing that tasted ok was the pastry that spinach and mustard in it, which by the way, the people fulfilling your orders do not know what they are serving. On both occasions I asked about wheat being on the food and what some of the pastries were called and they had to ask someone in the back. FYI, when I say the salt was missing, I am not one that eats alot of salt. Most foods in restaurants taste salty to me. I have to spice this meal up, as they say, and cook it some more to something that doesn't make me mad. Though isn't the point of take-out so you don't have to... I won't risk spending nearly $40 on ok food that may or may taste good depending on the day of the week.

The smoothie was delicious! They have a lot of options for food. I really enjoyed trying something called a Pholourie Ball while choosing my food choices. I ordered a large to go plate. And tried the collard greens, mashed potatoes, sweet potato, rice and peas, zucchini, chickpeas, and curried potato. I also got a side of the mac and cheese. The plate was a lot more food than I realized so I have a lot of leftovers.

However I was actually disappointed with the flavor! The food was mostly tasteless! The mac and cheese as someone mentioned earlier had no taste whatsoever. Had to add salt and pepper at home but felt gypped as there was no "cheese" flavor at all. Also online it says they use soy cheese in it but in the store says yucca? Not sure how they use yam in this dish but they should make it clear that there is soy in it because my body punished me for it later as I am sensitive to soy, especially in that amount. The rice literally had no flavor whatsoever. It was like all textured food with no taste. The only things that I listed that I tasted flavor in was the mashed potatoes, curried potato, and smoothie. I would come here again but would deff get a small plate instead of some sides and a smoothie. Vegans like their flavor and especially the food needs to be flavored to help those that may not be vegan be more open to trying the food. If even a vegan like me who has visited the majority of well known vegan spots in NYC finds the food tasteless, maybe it needs to be worked on. Either way, I am happy to have a vegan place within a half hour of me after moving to the Bronx. It is also near Jahlookova which is vegan as well and I'll have to compare Uptown Veg's patties to that when I try it.

Also the platters are by WEIGHT which I didn't realize as people were writing the plates were by a set price. They are not so keep that in mind. I ended up spending over $30 here so just be aware when ordering from the hot bar. Maybe it was an off day, I'll give them another chance in the...

The food at Uptown Veg and Juice Bar is good but I am giving it 1 star because of the rude personnel. The gentleman that makes the fresh juice is really nice his customer service is always excellent. The young lady that prepare the buffet food plates and the one that collect the money are totally rude and nasty. They have no customer service skills whatsoever. (This was not the 1st time) On September 28, 2017 at about 8:40pm my husband and I were deciding amongst ourselves what we were going to order when this rude ITCH approached with her loud mouth screaming twice whose next? (We were the only ones there) Then she yelled are you guys going to order or what? by this time the respectful gentlemen (who makes the fresh juice) walked over from the juice section and asked my husband what he wanted. Obviously, he observed his rude co-workers behavior and tried to intercept when the rude woman yelled at my husband stating "DON'T TOUCH THE CUPS". My husband informed her that she was rude and not to address him in that manner. We left without food of course refusing to spend our money with such nasty people. We have supported this establishment for a little over a year now and have given them a time out in the past for this same rude behavior. There used to be a middle aged woman that used to dished up the plates. She was very pleasant. I don't know what is going on with these people that work with the public and think that they can address you any way that they feel as if they are doing you a favor. Such a turnoff I may stop in to speak to the owner and see how that goes but the way I feel right now I will not order from them again its not worth the aggravation. HOW DIFFICULT CAN IT BE TO BE COURTEOUS TO YOUR CUSTOMERS WHO KEEP YOU EMPLOYED.....HOW MAY I HELP YOU? WITHOUT ALL THE ATTITUDE, YELLING AND...
