It was an interesting experience; however, the theater needs a big updating. The facade of the Building almost looked abandoned from a distance; its flags could use a changing since they were very dirty.

I went to the 3rd floor for a Martial Arts Events for Kemetic Masters. The theater pews were old, the stage too... It appeared to me that everything in the theater could use a makeover.

The show, however, was enlightening and entertaining. The bathrooms were terrible however. They need severe attention to. So because of these factors; i land this Theater a...

The theater, the fabulous staff, and the production crew are nothing short of AWESOME! I was blessed to see Chisa Hutchinson's wonderful play, "Dead and Breathing," directed by Jonathan McCrory! There is phenomenal acting by Lizan Mitchell, and Nikki E. Walker does her character Justice! Since this is the opening production of the 47th Season, I can only believe Sade Lythcott, CEO has more in store! Word of mouth will have the house packed with "Dead...

In 1821, the country’s first Black theater company opened a 300-seat theater at the corner of Bleecker and Mercer Streets. Today, on that same block, NYU’s new African Grove Theatre will open with a play honoring its namesake. Founded by William Alexander Brown, the African Company was known for staging Shakespearean classics performed by Black actors, ballets, comedies, and a play written by Brown himself. One of NYU’s new fourth-floor performance venues was dedicated in its memory when the Paulson Center opened on the site of the 19th-century original. In what Grad Acting Chair Carl Cofield calls “a real meta moment,” NYU Tisch is inaugurating the new space with a play about that history: Carlyle Brown’s “The African Company Presents Richard III.” The production, the first in the Paulson Center’s intimate 145-seat state-of-the-art “jewel-box theater,” will be performed Nov. 15-18 and Nov. 20-21. Here’s a sneak peek —plus a look at The Office Plays by Adam Bock, the first production in Paulson’s new Black Box space—and read more about the African Grove at the link in our bio. 📽️ Video by Jonathan King
