I came here a year ago for my birthday as I was planning to go on vacation & got knotless boho braids, they came out fantastic. I believe the owner & someone else were the ones to do it. She even gave me the option to choose the type of hair I wanted for the curls & I chose the human hair blend & it was perfect.

Fast forward to a year later, I called the owner for an appointment & left my $50 deposit for the same exact hair style. This time, it was 3 young girls who did my hair. From the moment I walked in the energy was abrasive. I was told that I had to pay $80 additional dollars on top of the price I was already quoted on the phone which included my deposit. I assumed the $80 was to cover the human hair blend, so I agreed to paying it even though I wasn’t presented with hair options.

At the start of the service, everything was going fine. That was until all 3 girls decided they were going to do my hair at once. I’ve been getting my hair braided for many years, & usually 2 people is the max I’ve had doing my hair. One person would start the braids & the other person would be finishing them. This time however, all 3 girls were starting braids in 3 separate parts of my head which was extremely painful. I was crouching & sighing & instead of understanding clear social ques, they proceeded to become even more rough in my head.

I have 3a hair so naturally I get concerned when my hair is being pulled to aggressively, especially when it’s going up into braids. But they didn’t seem to care that they were hurting me or about protecting the integrity of my hair. They were speaking extremely loudly over my head & their breath smelled so bad which annoyed me even more. One girl even stopped doing my hair to go take a bowel movement(mind you the bathroom was 10 ft away, from me) & then left the door wide open so we can bask in it. It was just not a professional environment at all.

I wasn’t going to leave a review initially, however, I’m in the process of currently taking these braids out & I am INFURIATED. I still felt pain 3 weeks later when putting my hair in an updo which is why I’m taking them out now, because I’m scared to see what the damage to my hair is. I was charged 80 additional dollars for what I thought was going to be decent quality hair, it is FULLY SYNTHETIC & the poorest quality hair I’ve ever had in my head in my life. I’m having to be extra cautious while taking my hair out because both the braiding hair & the curls are completely matted into my hair. It’s probably going to take me 24 hours to get this hair out without damaging my own hair. I will never be returning. Please get your hair done anywhere else but here if you care about your hair’s health & don’t want to...

First let me state, PLEASE don’t pick a braid spot based on reviews. I chose this shop based on her 4.8 rating and oh how I wish I would’ve red the lowest comments first because I had the same experiences as some of the other girls. I wasted a total of $525 between traveling 4 hours to her shop and buying 100% human hair that she ruined by mixing in synthetic. I sent a photo to the owner and explained before traveling that I was going to a very important event, and I asked her would she be able to do this style. She told me yes and to come up there. After looking in the mirror at how the girls were styling my hair, I stopped them multiple times to ensure they were doing the style I asked for and I should have left with them getting frustrated. Please see the style that I Asked for with girl in the green dress vs what I got me sitting down turned around. She was adamant it would come out the same, so I trusted the professional. Now I have hair falling out everytime I walk. She tied my human hair around knotless braids like they was tying shoelaces. I purchased $100 human hair and her and her team blended it with SYNTHETIC HAIR!! 2 days and it looks like I have a wet mop on my head. She came across as such a nice professional, but she showed who she really is. Her only solution was pay to come back again 4 hours away after sitting 8 hours to get my hair done so SHE CAN DO HER BEST TO FIX IT!!! I asked for at least $100 back to recover my human hair cost. She said no she can’t do that. This is unacceptable and my advice ladies would be to go to the first braid shop, and not walk back to the second shop. They ruined my human hair which was supposed to be braided at the ends of all my braids. Instead they curled and rodded Knotless with human hair. No accountability for their wrongdoing.

When I was done, I thought the hair would loosen up like I wanted it to originally look, so I took photos for her to post on her page. The actual braiding was neat so I was ok with it, until the hair napped up when I paid top dollar for human and hair drop every two steps. How embarrassing at my event! I will not be returning!

UPDATED:I HAVE RECEIPTS FOR THE HAIR I PAID FOR AND TWO PACKS WERE BOUGHT WITH 4 BUNDLES EACH. IF I SO CALLED HAD THE INCORRECT HAIR AFTER SHOWING YOU THE PHOTO I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT UPFRONT AND I WAS NOT. MY TOTAL CHARGES INCLUDING MY HAIR COST WAS $500+. YOU ORIGINALLY CHARGED ME $350 and DROPPED $300 FOR A JOB THAT...

I recently had an absolutely dreadful experience getting my hair braided, and I feel compelled to share my disappointment. I had high hopes for a professional and comfortable hair session, but unfortunately, my expectations were far from met.

To begin with, the braids were done far too tight, causing me immense discomfort from the moment they were finished. It was clear that the stylist was more focused on her own technique than considering my comfort or well-being during the process. Despite expressing my discomfort, it seemed as if my feelings were of little concern to her.

What added to my disappointment was the stylist's claim of having 35 years of experience in the hair industry. I couldn't help but question this assertion, given the subpar results I received. The quality of the braids was far from what I expected from someone with such extensive experience. The braids were thick and uneven, and it was evident that the stylist lacked attention to detail.

I paid a significant amount, $200, for a service that left me utterly unsatisfied. I expected neatly done small/medium braids, but what I got was nothing short of a disaster. The braids were so uncomfortably tight that I had to start taking them out after just three days, which was an added hassle and further waste of my time and money.

In conclusion, my experience with this hairstylist was beyond disappointing. The lack of consideration for my comfort, the poor quality of the braids, and the high price I paid for an unsatisfactory service have left me frustrated and regretful. I strongly advise anyone considering this stylist to think twice before entrusting their hair to her.

I am now left dealing with the consequences of this terrible experience, both in terms of discomfort, hair loss and the time and money wasted. It's disheartening to think that a supposedly experienced stylist could provide such a substandard service.

Lastly I would never lie about any experience I am paying money for. I am African and support black own business as much as I can. But if I have a bad experience and I have to tell you you are pulling my hair and you ignore my comment it’s definitely an issue. Please you can report for defamation I will gladly show photos of how crazy...

Hair style came out great however, by day three the curls started to come out, the human hair is not worth $100 a pack each, and this style is not worth $350 Also, they would not give me a price before I sat down in the chair which forced me to pay $350, additionally I watched three clients get fully serviced then paid Mesa AFTER their was done to their liking, but then Mesa Asked me to pay BEFORE my hair was complete, I told her no she can wait till my hair is complete to my liking just like the other three clients. She did not like that and eventually ended up walking by me and pulled my hair “pretending to looking/and feeling my hair” while HER BRAIDERS BRAID. She also took advantage of me because I had cash, and make me pay $20 in advance so I can pay her maintenance man. This lady will try to take advantage of you if she think she can, she’s Wicked. My braids are nice but there are so many braiding shops in HARLEM, please continue to search for a different one other than this one. I traveled from Connecticut to get treated unprofessionally, and over pay for boho braids that is shedding. Mesa please go take a business professionalism class. I have a Business a degree and would never treat my clients the way you treated me Saturday. Again braids came out beautiful day 1 but my Day 3 the $100 dollars pack of “human hair” is already coming out. Go here at your own risk ! ……………………………………………………. 3 WEEK UPDATE! DO NOT LET HER TALK YOU INTO BUYING $100 PER PACK IN “HUMAN HAIR” ITS A SCAM! The hair IS NOT HUMAN IT IS SYNTHETIC HAIR!!! The hair matted up, stiff, and knotted just after 3 weeks! HUMAN HAIR WOULD NEVER! If you go to her shop just bring your OWN HAIR ! And make the braider give you a price before letting them continue your hair! Like I said before there are WAYYYYY TOOO MANYYY hair braiders in Harlem to be settling for this SCAM, take yall money elsewhere, I WISH I DID !

I don’t know why it took me so long to write this review. Probably because every time I think about it it still makes me upset. But basically I had asked for boho box braid and real human hair had to be used. I didn’t want to do the style when I was told this by one of the employees because I assumed it was going to cost extra. I did try to ask the person helping me how much the braids would be repeatedly, but we ended up going back and forth and she never gave me a clear answer. I know I should’ve left after this, but I stayed because I trusted them considering they’ve been doing my hair well for a while now. I could tell I was annoying the worker with my questions on the price because she left and came back. When she came back I asked very clearly how much the hair was and if I’d be paying extra. She told me twice that I wouldn’t and that it would be the same price I always pay. I’m not sure if she said that just to get started on my hair, but I trusted what she told me. In the end I paid but Masa, the owner, pulled me aside and explained that I had to pay extra because real hair was used. When I tried to explain what her worker told me, she basically said I should’ve asked what kind of hair was being put in and made it seem like it was my fault for the misunderstanding. I do understand that maybe I could’ve been more specific about that, but I feel like I tried to ask the right questions and wasn’t given clear answers. The whole situation left a bad taste in my mouth especially since I’ve been coming here for almost a year and have never had a problem until then. Also, the braids they did was pretty, but it wasn’t exactly what I asked for
