This review is pertaining to the management refusing to refund almost $500 that was mistakenly charged as a result of their employee's mistake. I discovered this issue after several months of charges and while initial communication was good, I was ghosted for a month by the manager Kasia Pietras who was supposedly inquiring with the owner (I assume CEO Pat Enright?). After a month of follow ups via email, calling the business and following up via text, I receive one last communication denying my request. I intend to file with small claims to sue for the money owed but I want to warn others so they can avoid going through this stress--do not open a membership here and if you do, make sure you fill out their new cancellation form (implemented after this issue occurred) and confirm your account is in the correct status and you aren't getting charged. The original mistake was that the employee used an incorrect billing status when I asked to pause my account after injuring my ankle in the gym. This review also pertains to MetroRock Williamsburg which is managed by the...
Read moreI wish I could be more positive about our experience here but it was sub par at best and bad at worst. If you want to time travel 15-20 years to what would have been a bad gym in that era, this is the place to do it. The setting is really poor, characterless easy routes with no flow and that don't teach anything, uncreative harder routes that tend to test your reach more than your skills or strength. I love old school setting, but this is amateur at best. It made me laugh that the staff commented on how soft the mats are like it was positive: most of the mats need retiring. They're so soft and unsupportive that they are asking for an ankle or knee injury. The kilter board matting is a joke, it's been over a decade since I've fallen into gaps between mats indoors, if you're going to invest into a kilter, invest into pads too. Being able to fall between mats in 2023 is just not acceptable. The sit starts don't even climb properly because the board sits lower than the mats. Just so much wrong in here. Staff are lovely and the community are...
Read more"Unqualified" is the only word I can use to describe the staff of this place. I have been climbing for 30 years around the world and a silly little girl, that we still showed how we used the tube in the "Absurd" way in which she wanted us he wanted us to make sure top rope, [No manufacturer's manual says to use this mode] told us that we didn't pass the test and we could only use the few autobeleys . Leaving aside the the fact that I should have passed the test to climb from the first one which is what I normally do. I want to emphasize that she didn't bother to make a knot at the end of the rope, which I did, and she could make myself do the test of falling in an area where falling the first 3 meters it easily falls against an unprotected iron staircase. Obviously to do Boulder or lead there are better gyms in New York and with more prepared people on what is really important...
