My husband and I travel to New York City a few times a year to see shows. In 25 years, we have never had a bad experience with concessions or seating until this past weekend. Beware of the freestanding chairs at the end of the aisles (see my attachment) because mine was broken. Also, the concessions staff were not very friendly. I know serving drinks for that half hour before the show is stressful, but they need to hire someone that can handle it and be pleasant and efficient- other theatres offer that. When I complained about how uncomfortable my chair was in an email they said that those are normally reserved for handicapped people so they can remove the chair if the person wants to sit in their wheelchair, which is even more upsetting that they have broken chairs for disabled people. When I requested a refund for one ticket they only offered to make my experience better the next time. I love Idina Menzel and I’m sure this was a great show, but I was in so much pain, I was just waiting for it to end. Broadway shows are special and staff should either ensure a comfortable experience or compensate those that are terrible. P. S. Also see the attached photo of my husband’s view. That’s luck at the draw so I didn’t request a refund for that seat. You can’t make this stuff up lol. The good news is I loaded up on Motrin and we went to the Lyceum the following night and saw Oh Mary for the second time this month where everyone was friendly and the seats and...
Read moreBilly Crystal was excellent, the show is wonderful, the theater is great(both classic's)! First off I kinda thought of Jackie Mason many times during the performance, and the many Jewish references throughout... something I was pleasantly surprised but didn't get from the reviews. Well there were many comments about the tight seating and I tried my hardest to not make that the center of attraction, since of course this is a older theater and seating could be a issue if you want it to be. As long as your not too tall (over 6'6") and more than 300lbs. right and if you are that's your problem (not mine) right...Wrong! We had a 300+lb. Person in the seat next to us, need I say what that meant to the 115lb person sitting next to him, plus how everyone had to hold on for their lives as he made his way down the isle After the show started to add. Next to him wasnt a 6'6"person but a tall man with a huge duffle bag (either the bag or the person gets that seat). These are some reasons the seating at this theater could be a challenge to say the least and because of that the one less star. Please tell the theatre to list this in their seating chart before allowing you to purchase a ticket. Why doesn't the theater protect the paying customer from being forced to give up half of their seat from those people who can't fit in their own seat? Just seams to be no consideration for others these...
Read moreA note for the users of the men's bathroom: it is an interesting set up for a men's room (I've never used their women's rest room, so I cannot comment about its set up). First off, the restroom is up stairs - most theatres have their bathrooms downstairs when you first enter. You'll notice right away that there are directional signs for the bathroom with one side labeled for entrance and the other for exit. This makes sense once you turn the corner and see the bathroom. It is an incredibly narrow space. The urinals are very close, both to each other and to the people waiting on line. And they are tight. There are dividers between them, but they are narrow. I can just squeeze my shoulders into the space. (But, in all fairness, I am thick/ wide/broad/non-petite, and take up space... however, they are still a tight squeeze). And there are 2 stalls on the otherside. On the pathway out are the sinks leading to the exit. There is just enough space for a single file, so you might have to wait for the person at the sink in front of you to finish before you can exit.
tl;dr- if you are Pee Shy or Claustrophobic, I'd recommend going to the restroom before you get to the theatre!
A bonus note: right by the exit, they also have a little water cooler with paper cups. I always thought this was kinda nice. Just beware; stopping to get a cup of water will block the exit, so be...
