As a self-professed comic aficionado for over two decades, traversing through the towering stacks of Midtown Comics is akin to navigating through the vibrant pages of my favorite graphic novels. A love affair that only seems to grow panel by panel, issue by issue.
Midtown Comics, to the unacquainted, is not just another comic book store; it’s a Technicolor wonderland teeming with life, color, and boundless imagination. It’s an exhilarating expedition into the realms of pop culture, where one can rub shoulders with the likes of Batman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, and a diverse band of anime, manga, and graphic novel characters.
Navigating through its labyrinth of endless aisles stacked with comics, graphic novels, figurines, and collectibles feels like time travel. It is as if I’m a child again, with eyes wide open in awe, eagerly awaiting the next exciting twist in the tale.
The staff at Midtown Comics seem to have been plucked straight out of the pages of a superhero comic book. Their vast knowledge, boundless enthusiasm, and helpful nature ensure you find the hidden gems amidst the treasure troves, whether you’re a rookie reader or a seasoned collector.
The one consistent element throughout my two-decade love affair with Midtown Comics is the palpable thrill of discovery, like a choose-your-own-adventure saga that never ends. Every visit unearths new characters, new worlds, new story arcs, breathing fresh life into this romance.
To conclude, Midtown Comics is not just a store; it’s a portal into countless other dimensions, each more enthralling than the last. It’s an ever-unfolding comic strip, where I’m both the reader and the protagonist. It’s a 5-star sensory overload that never ceases to thrill.
So if you’re ready to unleash your inner superhero (or villain), step into the incredible world of Midtown Comics. Just be warned - once you dive in, you may never want to return to the mundane...
Read moreHaving previously made online orders from Midtown Comics with no problems, I'm super disappointed in my most recent experience. Submitted an order for four titles (3 Marvel, 1 DC), all of which were released in the past few months. All four comic books arrived with visible damage. At best only two could be reasonably ascribed damage from shoddy packing/shipping. Two showed damage from obviously mishandling.
When notifying online customer service of the damaged order, I was initially given two options: a 25% credit to accept the damaged order as-is or receive store credit upon shipping the order back. I had to call to someone on the phone to inquire whether I could simply receive a refund to the credit card on which I made the purchase. I was given this third option but had to pay for the $15 USPS return postage at my own expense.
I have the pending refund on my credit card, which I noticed after receiving a follow-up message on the email chain, but NOT FOR THE FULL AMOUNT. So in aggregate, I haven't fully lost money on this busted purchase, but I basically paid Midtown Comics to ship me four damaged comics books with nothing now to show for it.
THIS ISN'T ABOUT THE MONEY. This is incredibly poor business practices, considering how often I've heard others rely on Midtown Comics. But I judge a company on not when orders go right but how they deal with problems. For example, I've dealt with another predominantly online retailer who specializes in exclusive variant covers. I've required three replacement orders on an exclusive variant cover of a comic book twice, but at the very least they have ALWAYS covered shipping. They never made me pay more out of pocket for basic online retailer services.
I won't be shopping with Midtown Comics again. They aren't reliable, and worse they don't own up to the full costs of doing business, nickel and diming customers when...
Read moreThis company has just been disappointing me, and this may be the final straw. The staff is friendly enough, and there is a lot of variety of new comics, from The Big 2 to IMAGE and smaller independent comic companies. Here's how they've disappointed me, and it feels shady to me. I went to Midtown Comics Times Square for a sale event, that was at all 3 of the Manhattan locations, assuming the discounts would automatically apply to back issues, manga and merch, since it had been the case for years before this event. I checked my receipt the day after and saw that no discounts were applied. I contacted customer service, and I was told that there was a QR code that I needed to scan. Nothing that I saw at a glance indicated this to me in the Facebook event page. Only when I clicked on the banner photo did I see that QR code. How am I supposed to know that this code is how I get the discount when I don't when I, probably many others, don't expand the banner photo? Nothing in the "What to expect" part of the event post tells me that a QR code has to be scanned in order to get the discount. When I went inside, I didn't see any signs of the sale, but I ignored it, thinking it was a fluke. Now, in hindsight, that was probably a deliberate action. This is almost like a sale that was active a month or so ago at the Astoria location. It was either a 25% or 40% off back issue sale. I went, picked out the back issues, and checked out, assuming the discount would, as was always the case before that time, be automatically applied. Turns out, way too late that they made it, so I had to mention the sale and that the discounts were not programmed into their system. I...
