Poor shopping experience. I had stopped by a few times a week on my way home for years, including during the Covid pandemic when they had only few customers. This Labor Day weekend the security man said he needed to look in my pushcart before I left. And said he was just doing his job. If someone working at this store thought it was sane to ask a customer of over 10 years to look in their pushcart because some other people have taken things, I can understand why their customer base at this location is getting smaller.

If Jack’s 99 on 40th st wishes to treat its long term customers like that, it does seem like they don’t want their long term customers from the neighborhood to shop there. When I shop at the Whole Foods up the block, the Lot-Less across the street they are happy to have my business even though they’re crowded. Then here, where I have shopped at least 3 times a week after shopping at other stores, and am familiar with all the workers faces , they with mine and I pay with card every single time, it was misguided for anyone to tell the security man to do that or the store has sadly dropped in practicing logical customer service, especially to long term customers.

I have also never seen these people look in the bags of a White customer. And scrolling through the 1 star reviews on Google about this Jack’s location, there seems to be a common thread concerning inequitable security attention when it comes to patrons who are not White.

The store is mostly empty these days and asking to look into the bags of a long term customer seems to be the only idea some staff can think of to appear busy. Sometimes, store staff do things that make no sense. Like chasing away a long term customer thru illogical actions. Whoever told the security guard to do that does not have the interest of this store in mind and should be fired. What an insult! But again, there are many other stores in the area to shop that enjoy having long...

I just went there to purchase facemask as I normally go shop for years and I am good customer. I great the staff, nowadays new staff are replaced they very rude Asians talking their's language at present, very impolite, one is there Indian-Pakistani and Red hair Indian are nice. The Security guard African has personal hate probably to white Women's taller than his 4'0 height, Imagine I greeted him, he supposed too, and opened my bag told him that is with me Only Jack's bag carrying on but inside BH Photo purchase expensive and I don't feel safe to keep in front, well he was screaming, Made Drama over a one item a Facemask to buy. Normaly wrap up crossed, but he had own rules andpersonal hate. bothers me is that I shop for years and very good customer. His bad service skills everyone heard, i knew have a rights because I did so many good reviews on top not a thief but good person. I dont deserve to be disrespect.

Fist of all, write Sign If store has a Requires.I don't think NYKers will ever come at your store. Who would trust to leave personal bags including expensive item's

I told him One Item I need is Facemask that's all in and out. I asked for a manager, one lady came she knows me for years , she said this new policy leave bags at front, depending on Security guard's, if let you. she let me, but not good customer service of her side. I am disappointed Why Big drama.

Gladly one Customer told her OFF that Security was very Unprofessional with me and She was too.

Please educate your staff, and front desk they should GREETING YOU. If one security let me why this doesn't, make equal rule to everyone , or bags policy.

If your a tourist and you want to watch your penny and don't want to spend too much $$$$ on items you may need while your here in NYC, we'll leave all your bathroom essentials at home . Make your suitcase lighter. They have underwear , sox , toothbrushes , sops , shampoo, conditioner, hair brush, snaadles towels hoodies . Just basic things. PJ, 's snacks , drinks and it won't break your pocket. I live in NY and I always come to this store because it's one of the few that is affordable. They take cash and credit card. American money. I love this store. If you looking for name brand stuff then , this is not your store. This is just basics stuff. People this is NEW YORK CITY DONT MAKE YOUR SUITCASE HEAVIER THAN IT HAS TO BE. YOU CAN BUY EVERYTHING ANYWHERE IN NYC . ITS JUST THAT SOME PLACES WILL CHARGE YOU A HELL OF A LOT MORE MONEY THAN OTHERS. JACKS IS A GREAT PLACE TO BUY WHAT YOU NEED. JACKS IS LOCATED ON 40TH ST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BLOCK BETWEEN 7, & 8TH AVE . DO NOT SHOP AT THE BUS STATION PORT AUTHORITY ITS LIKE SHOPPING AT THE AIRPORT PRICES RIDICULOUS. SHOP HERE FOR WHAT EVER U NEED SNACKS, SANDWICH, DRINKS ,MENS STUFF CLOTHING, OF COURSE NO NAME BRANDS. STUFF , BATHROOM, DO BRING NOTHING FROM UR COUNTRY SHOP HERE. O IF U NEED COFFEE GO TO McDonald's or Dunkin Donuts or 7/11 people do not spend $7 on coffee .PRICES ARE SOOO REASONABLE FOR NYC. Make ur suitcase lighter u can buy stuff once u get here. The old Jack’s on 32nd, down the block from the Garden, was one of the most beloved stores in the City. Just about every native New Yorker (or at least Manhattanite) knew and loved the chaos, the crowds, and the great prices. Back then there were actually items priced at $.99. Stopping in after work was almost a ritual for many of us. Fast forward. The old Jack’s is sadly gone, but was reborn on 40th St. between 7th and 8th. It’s a much, much more modest version of what it was. It’s a much smaller and a much calmer environment. There are never the insane berserker shopping crowds like at the old place. Now it’s just a normal shopping experience and It’s a good place to get a few things for the house; maybe snacks and a drink. If it’s basic things that you’re looking for and don’t want to spend a fortune, then this is a great option. Things in the City are constantly changing, and many much loved institutions come and go. Such was the case with the original Jack’s. But we’re lucky to have this one. I stop in pretty regularly to pick up primarily household items. Maybe it’s out of nostalgia, I don’t know. But if you’re in the area stop by. You’ll certainly find some things that you can use. Long live Jacks!
