Iād passed the store en route to other places in the past, yet never went in. The side of the store is plastered with imagery of tropical produce and beaches, conjuring the Caribbean. This is best described as a grocery store with West Indians (especially Jamaicans) as they primary target.
I live in the West Bronx where there isnāt a huge West Indian population. Spending a lot of time in Brooklyn, Iām used to picking up staples while Iām out and about. I made a concerted effort to use Google to find a specialty market to find a particular Trinidadian curry. I wasnāt sure that Iād be able to get it in the Bronx.
Traveling hear wasnāt exactly easy, but it was a nice day and I tried my luck. I was impressed at the system the store had for socializing distancing, only allowing a certain amount of customers in at once. A bonus was that the employee gave each customer a pair of disposable gloves before entering.
Within seconds, I saw that there was a large spice display at the end of the aisle. I was able to find several Trini curry blends, of which I bought. I saw that they sold traditional items like breadfruit, which is also not common in the West Bronx. The selection of beverages, snacks, produce, and staples were good. I also picked up a ginger sorrel drink. In the back thereās a fish market, selling fresh selections. I would be interested in buying some cuts to grill at home.
Overall, the only downside was that despite the social distancing, the aisles are very narrow. Other than that, I would...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI once liked this place, but over the years has gotten so bad.. over price produce that are no longer fresh.. Friday night I stopped by on my way home to Connecticut. I brought callaloo, peppers etc. I emphasize callaloo because I brought two bags for at $2.79 Ib. both bags were like $15+ I realize Monday when I was getting ready to prepare it that the callaloo was hard af, tough.. even stripping to cut was difficult. It was thick and old. Of course in this case it's impossible to even prepare. I called palm tree to tell them, first person came on the phone screaming that if it's passed three days I can't return it. I asked for a manager, and same behavior if not worst. Mind you I explained that I don't just live down the street, and that I drive all the way from CT. Also that I travel for work, and couldn't just come right back to their store. I was told I wouldn't get a store credit after three days..etc. After listening to more disrespect I decided it won't happen again, as this wasn't the first I've encountered their disrespectful behavior. Twice is enough @Palm tree.. There are other Caribbean supermarket besides you, and why stoop to your level. You won't ever get my money again. Way to give great customer...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI felt like I was in JAMAICA again. Lots of nice Jamaican shoppers, predominantly. A large variety of fresh fruit and Vegetables. It may get a little crowded at times, due to the Store's popularity to the Island Community. This is a place they can get the items they would overseas in there native Island. Every Jamaican Girl friend I had, shopped here. Note, the parking may be a bit cramped, but is Organized with a Palm Tree Store Security to organize the parking structure. If you park inside, just come early or afternoon be patient. You can park outside the Store within a block distance walk anywhere around the store. Overall, I like the prices as well. There's a KFC right down the block, once you are there first, go shopping then one person goes back for the parked car at KFC, drive to the store to pick up the groceries. Note, t's a great shipping experience. I hope you like my view, if so, PLEASE rate...
