Boy, where do I even begin? In December 2021, I decided to try out Park Slope Eye. Had an unbelievably unsettling visit where Dr. Bazan suggested I may have melanoma of the eye and urged me to get into see a specialist ASAP. He promised to have his admin set me up an appointment with his recommended specialist, but that never happened despite repeated follow ups by me. Was able to arrange my own appointment with someone else and spent 10 days in tears (ruining my first Christmas with my then 6 month old daughter), terrified I had this very deadly disease (fatality rate at 10 years is 50%). When I had my evaluation with the specialist, she was incredulous that Dr. Bazan ever suggested I had a melanoma, that I had a simple/textbook case of something called CHRPE, which is benign. All of that stress and anguish for nothing, and zero follow up from Dr. Bazan to even check on me.
I certainly was a fool to return in November 2022 to Park Slope Eye, but due to my own scheduling issues I was out of time to get a new contacts prescription before I ran out and I was able to get in faster as an existing patient. I tried out Dr. Lin, hoping for a different experience. And while Dr. Lin did not mention any possible cancers and was professional, the admin was not. My insurance had switched from the previous year and no one ever informed me that I was now out of network. I was hit with a huge bill and was essentially told, “too bad, you should have read the website better!” – even though their website lists my insurance carrier, they apparently did not take my specific plan. They also double billed me as well for items that my insurance did pay for them, despite being out of network. They refused to refund me for this double payment despite several emails back and forth, however luckily my insurance company reimbursed me directly for this fraudulent behavior.
Despite all of that, I still didn’t even get my contacts on time as they had to order samples for me as Dr. Lin insisted I try a new prescription, and the samples took over 2 weeks to come in. They never informed me of this wait time either, I had to follow up by email. Naturally, the new prescription was a bust and a month later after my visit I finally got Dr. Lin to write me a renewal of my old prescription.
TLDR - Park Slope Eye has shady billing practices and Dr. Bazan is something else. Avoid...
Read moreThis place is awesome! Dr. Bazan is the best eye doctor I’ve ever been to! I’ve been trying to make my myopia gradually better every visit, rather than worse, and he’s been totally helpful and supportive! He’s the only eye doctor I’ve ever had who is actually trying to make my eyes improve rather than just sell me stronger and stronger glasses. He’s also just got a great vibe, very fun to be around, and he even makes videos online talking about the science of our eyes -that’s how I found him! He’s really trying to help people!
The front desk staff are also very friendly and are people rather than salesmen. They’ve never pressured me to buy anything and their prices for exams are very reasonable, and they take most insurance. Mine is underwritten by VSP so they definitely take that. They also don’t make you fill out any paperwork or wait very long at all. It’s very painless! You just get pictures taken of your eyes with their state of the art machines (no dilation! :) ) while you wait, then when you’re done the doctor is ready for you! Easy! They and the doctor are also very quick to reply via email if you ever want to ask them anything.
There’s even a referral credit where if you refer a friend you get $25 off and so do they, and there’s no limit on how many people you can refer! I’ve been telling all my coworkers to go there! I know I sound like a shill, but after going to eye doctors since the second grade and it being lame every time, this experience is SO...
Read moreThe following describes the experience of my wife, Ruth: Dr. Bazan is awesome! He's kind, concerned and responsive. His office is run effectively: the website advises inquiries by email, and these are answered promptly. Although I had only visited the office once before, Dr. Bazan managed to make room for me quickly when I called about an intractable infected stye. I'm so incredibly grateful! Thank you, Dr. Bazan, and thank you, Aaron, who first fielded my email.
A more recent review, June 2025, from Neil's wife: I'm most pleased to again give a five-star review to Dr. Bazan and Park Slope Eye. I had an excellent appointment with Dr. Bazan last week. (He's the doctor I saw by choice, but I believe there is often another doctor in the office nowadays, also, no doubt, very good.) Because I was scheduled at the end of the day, I was able to speak at length with Dr. Bazan, which was exceptionally gratifying. Dr. Bazan loves his work! He's proud of his well-kept office and takes delight (assuming there's time) in sharing images and explaining aspects of physiology and eye health to the patient. The office staff, namely Aaron and Blake, is competent and responsive. I've been suffering the after effects of a broken leg due to a car accident and I found both Dr. Bazan and his staff to be understanding and supportive. All in all,...
