I've been a member of Pure Barre Park Slope for about 18 months and it was love at first tuck. :) The instructors are top notch, the members are easy going, and the work is intense (every body according to it's abilities). It's a multi generational studio, and its membership is predominantly female.
My favorite formats are the yoga-inspired Align and dance/pilates-inspired Classic, and they also have more intensive cardio and strength option as well. The schedule is robust--you can always find a daily option. They shake up the community with special events and challenges throughout the year (see the pictures of the Mom-osa Mother's Day treat that awaited us after class last weekend...)
I never get bored, because the choreography changes every few weeks. And at the same time, there is a fairly consistent pattern from class to class. It took me about 4-5 classes before I figured out the patterns and the etiquette. Today, I have 179 classes under my belt--working toward my 250 class milestone.
I will admit that there are times I quietly swear at my instructors under my breath when they make those tiny adjustments in my form... :) As a former dancer and yoga instructor, I appreciate their ability to recognize and offer kind corrections, as well as positive reinforcement when things are going well.
Here I am on my 50th class milestone.
Highly...
Read moreI really love this place, even though I usually have to drive there and it's a little bit of a schlep, but I'm STILL a fan! They have tons of classes, lots of flexibility re: timing/scheduling, even when the classes are full it never feels uncomfortably packed, it's very clean (which a germaphobe like me appreciates), and everyone is SO nice. My dream would be to live around the corner, and then I'd probably be doing three classes a day. But for now, I go when I can (which is still fairly often) and I find that it gets my day off to a good start. You might think that it would get boring, since there are really only three formats, but the formats are quite different, and even within the same format there is a lot of flexibility in terms of what the teacher will make you do, so it's quite often a killer workout. But what really keeps me coming back is just how kind and welcoming everyone is, how well run and well organized, and how many class options there are -- you'll always find something to fit...
Read moreMy very first Pure Barre class was 1 year ago via class pass. The class was in the UES, and I loved the vibe of the workout and instructor, plus I felt SO good after. I took a couple more classes via class pass in UES (I work there), but then eventually took one at my local PB in Park Slope! I decided to sign up for an unlimited membership in January of this year, and I’m so glad I did! I love the community of this location. The instructors are very personable, they make you feel comfortable and welcome, they help with modifications, and always ask for consent with hands on prior to class starting. I love coming here on my days off and getting a full body workout! The different class styles make it challenging, and my core has never been stronger! I recommend Pure Barre to all my friends, and have brought a couple friends with me to this location! Thanks Sonnet and thanks to all the instructors for making this a fun, yet challenging workout...
