My friends and I reserved a table for our Friendsgiving last Friday (on their site it states that itâs acceptable to bring outside food and I also confirmed this with one of their employees on the phone). We werenât there that long before we were rudely rushed to buy drinks by the bar tender. Mind you besides two other people, my group and I (a total of 8 of us) were the only ones there. Later during the night we were approached with hostility by an employee (who wears a cowboy hat) who threatened to kick us out because we ONLY purchased 3 drinks as a group and because he saw that we brought in a soft drink (that wasnât purchased at the bar). He also rudely said that this is not a community center. (This felt like a micro-aggression because my group and I are all people of color). First, to dismiss the 3 drinks that we paid for is rude. Second, to threaten to kick us out when the bar wasnât even crowded and the night was just getting started is poor business and unprofessional customer service. Lastly, be clear and update your barâs policy on your website about large parties and bringing outside food and beverages to the establishment. Donât bring your attitude over here. Overall, my group and I were extremely disgusted by the customer service. We were getting glares all night from the staff and felt extremely uncomfortable. There is a way to talk to people especially YOUR CUSTOMERS, if you disagree on something or are trying to get your point across. Solid State lost out on some extra business that night. We were planning on purchasing some more drinks that night but because of the disrespectful service that soured our evening and made us feel extremely uncomfortable,...
Read moreI honestly had an incredible experience at Solid State. The bartenders were super knowledgeable and really seemed familiar with their own beers selection (which seemed like a curated menu highlighting local breweries in Queens - Singlecut, Big Alice, KCBC, etc.). I asked for help choosing, they asked a few questions, and I got exactly what I'd been hoping for.
Not at all crowded on a Friday night but certainly not empty - the majority of the (pretty cozy) seating was occupied and the noise level was perfect (could hear everyone I was with without shouting at one another but it also wasn't quiet in here).
They have a really great boardgame selection, too! Good mix of party, casual, card, strategy, etc. To name a few that caught my eye for being unusual to find but make for great beering+gaming options: Coup, Apples to Apples, Telestrations after dark, Ticket to Ride, a DnD starter set (?!), Unstable Unicorns (that's what we played), What do you Meme, etc.
Overall just a great experience and will definitely continue being an option for dates and...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite bars for a great craft beer selection, board games, trivia nights, and pinball. They have 8 pinball machines in the back - with new ones occasionally added into the rotation - as of 12/24/21, the ones I played were Indiana Jones, Tron, Deadpool, and Guardians of the Galaxy. All games only take cash and usually have 3 credits for $2. They also have a ton of board games and card games to grab and play at the tables. Local craft beer selection is top notch (they have both drafts and bottles also on rotation) and they also can make cocktails if thatâs your preference. If you want food, you can either order delivery on your own to the bar or just pick up food around the area and eat it at the bar. If youâre in the area looking for a fun place to hang out with friends, I highly recommend checking out...
