Starlight Park

Having grown up several subway stops east of here for nearly 42 years, I can recall when this semi-industrial area was left to rot like many public places the city deemed unworthy of fixing. Not to sound too negative on the subject. It's just that when certain neighborhoods have certain ethnic groups residing nearby, tax dollars don't usually go back into rehabilitation projects. All the more telling that the last 18 years has seen this slow paced gentrification process permeate The Bronx. I try to be open minded in these reviews and play it down the middle regarding public forums like Google. And believe me when I say that seeing Starlight Park get this type of rehabilitation is something to behold. Don't let my on-the-nose assessment stop you from taking in this great pedestrian project. Just know that coming from a local who has managed to grow up between the eras of urban malaise and outpriced citizens seeing their old neighborhoods become unrecognizable, this Municipal urge to clean up urban areas has its darkside.
