Easily one of the most inspiring urban design projects in the world, the High Line turns a former elevated rail line into a lush, linear park through Manhattan’s West Side. With its clever integration of architecture, landscape, and art, walking the High Line is like experiencing a curated slice of New York.

The landscaping is rich and diverse, changing subtly with each block. Built-in benches, lookout points, and loungers provide perfect moments of pause amidst the city rush. Public artworks, seasonal blooms, and stunning views of the Hudson and surrounding architecture all compete for your attention.

It’s an ideal route for reflective solo strolls or leisurely group walks. I never tire of the way the High Line transforms how you see and...

I first experienced the High Line a few years ago, and ever since, it’s become a must-do whenever I’m in New York. I’ve walked it in the depths of winter and in the heat of summer, and every time, it’s a rewarding experience. It offers a peaceful escape from the city’s noise and chaos, like hitting pause in the middle of Manhattan. From this elevated path, you get a bird’s-eye view of the streets below, and your senses are awakened by the beauty of nature: blooming flowers, the scent of blossoms, trickling water, and birdsong. It’s a different side of New York, and one that never...

A highlight for me in NYC, I love the High Line concept, especially how it was executed, super creative touches everywhere you look, including keeping original rails in place to tie the current use to the original use. My teenage daughter and me walked almost the full length and had a very nice time. Lots of people doing the same thing, but even though a bit crowded, everyone was okay and moving in a good way.

I especially like where the route ends, the north end, where you can see how Hudson Yards was built over the operating rail yard and have views of the Hudson River as well....

The High Line is a lovely place for a walk to mitigate some of the Manhattan jostling. Of course, on crowded days, plenty of people feel the same way. The artwork and greenery make this a very pleasant place to visit. Landscaping is well manicured. Nice views of the local buildings and peeks at the Hudson River. Definitely worth a visit. People using wheelchairs are able to enjoy this elevated walkway but should plan ahead for access locations.
