I came here with coworkers and we reserved the room in the back. It was a standing space with tables for food and drinks as well as a small corner to hang clothes and put belongings. The space was dimly lit and there was quiet music playing, and the ambiance was pleasant. We got patatas bravas (potatoes with aioli), pimientos estilo gernika (blistered green peppers with sea salt), gambas al ajillo (shrimp in olive oil with garlic and chili), montadito de crema de habitas con manchego (fava beans with manchego cheese and parsley), some sort of croquette (probably croquette of the day as there wasn't any meat inside), piquillos rellenos de pisto (stuffed peppers with squash, eggplant, tomato, and creamy sheep’s milk cheese), pan con tomate (grilled and garlic-rubbed baguette with tomato - for some reason they didn't serve us the three sauces), and some bread with meat, bell pepper, and cheese on top. It was a great spread of food, and the food was tasty but not amazing. The potatoes tasted deep-fried, and they were a bit hard. The shrimp and fava beans bread could've had more flavor. I liked the stuffed bell pepper, freshly fried croquettes, and shishito peppers. The tomato bread was a bit hard and the sauce on top wasn't super delicious as it was super garlicky and could definitely have gone with more tomato spread. Service was good as we got checked up on for drinks and food, and we had a good time there. Food is definitely on the expensive...
Read moreWe used to come here, all the time. Now, one of our favorite staff is gone and our other only works on weekends. And, the reviews were not good for a while. But, I've always loved this place and convinced my friends to try again. So glad we did! The food is as good as it always was (even though my unfortunate dietary needs have limited me.) And our server--Rebecca--was SO on top of things! She guided me every step of the way, and even alerted me to bad for ME ingredients in some of our old faves. She made us feel like she had no other customers for the evening. She was so attuned! Good to see some other familiar faces, as well. The only reason I had to score low was not really Tia's fault. One of my friends required a proper chair, rather than one of the higher ones or a seat at the bar. So, we had to sit in back. Sadly, there was a group of young women, having a birthday party. Not only were they so loud that I had to shout to be heard--and usually I'm the one being told to be quieter--but they really dwarfed the entire room with their selfishness. So, not a critique on my beloved Tia Pol. This is more of a warning to keep a lookout for big groups of women if you're going to sit in the back room. Otherwise, you're...
Read moreYummy yummy yummy! Tia Pol is great. The service is warm and welcoming, the options are a plenty, and the food is fabulous.
I've heard from others that their sangria is really good, but did not have a chance to sample it myself.
I will say that of all their offerings, my favorite was the croquetas de jamón y croqueta del día. It's basically a little packet of ham wrapped around manchego cheese and artichoke heart - so its savory and creamy on the inside and the ham is delicious.
Additionally, would highly recommend the pan con tomate y tres salsas. This is basically a crostini, but elevated. The bread is buttery and salty and amazing, and the spreads are unbelievable.
Everything else is really good, although I'd stay away from the gambas al ajillo and patatas bravas. Even though they're two of my favorite tapas dishes, they weren't executed super well at tia pol. They patatas were a little too goopy with the sauce (and the sauce was a little to mayonnaise-y for my taste), and the gambas were a touch overcooked and dry.
Overall, this is a great place, for a great value, with wonderful service. I'll...
