I went here for the 1st time with my siblings to enjoy art around the city. We wanted to see the infinity mirrors but they were under renovations at the time. Instead went to this gallery instead. The amount of space was small/medium. The "artwork" that was presented at the time was more like a museum. The theme was about the hardships of the spanish heading to America and the things they left behind. When we got there we were tired and had come a long way and decided to have a quick bite to eat. As there were no signs that said we could not.The receptionist saw us eat and then the passed us the 2nd time and said we were not allowed to eat. So we were finishing up the last few bites before putting away our food. But then she came around again and had called out a guy/security to tell us to stop eating which we had already done. We decided to look around a bit more only to find the guy following us around and harassing us.
Here was the conversation: Us: Why are you following us ? Guy/Security : I'm not comfortable with you here and you should leave ? Us: Why should we leave if we have not done anything wrong? We were eating you told us to stop and we did. It's not like we stole anything. Now you are stalking and harassing us. Guy/Security: Leave or we will call the cops to arrest you. Us: Go ahead we didn't do anything wrong. If anything we will tell them you are harassing/stalking us and being racist because you think we are going to steal from you. (Then he didn't want to call the cops)
Before we left another staff member saw that we were under distress and wanted to resolve the issue. He listen to both sides of the situation. He apologized for our experience and told the security guy to back off and making a big fuss out of nothing. But he was still persistent on harassing us.
I have never had an experience like that with and art gallery or museum. I expected better mannerism and courtesy from a well known gallery. I will not be coming here again.
Below is the picture if the guy...

The gallery is not accommodating for people with disabilities / tgnci folks, and most of the staff are bitter sweet, and won’t reveal details of the price of the artist, if you don’t seem to fit their “class” bracket. The irony, that the arts, “freedom of expression” has become the halls of judgement, division, and subtle / overt ways of bias, obstacles and discrimination for those who don’t...
Read moreThe space is flawless but I am pained by deeply problematic judgemental and passive front desk staff who act superior to visitors. This results in motivating elitism and social bias, completely at odds with the enormous effort the artists on show are putting into inclusivity and social intimacy, the irony. You don't know who is in front of you, nor does it matter if you are or are not 'somebody'. Strongly advise PACE directors to discourage this familiar...
