For some reason Google Maps only shows the "Library" part at this location, but the true gem is the used bookstore in the basement. It's called The Book Cellar and is absolutely fantastic: consider this - it's a non-profit store, all stock is donated by locals - specifically, Upper East Side locals - the same people you hear coughing in the Met Opera. And the prices are just too good to be true - 1st ed 1st printing Name of the Rose (HCDJ) for $1? 1st American ed Winnie the Pooh for 25? 1st ed dust jacket Little Prince for 40? It’s a convenient location, has a nice kids section with tables and chairs, it’s easy to reserve and pick up holds, and you can renew multiple times. You can check out up to 50 books at a time!
