Twice I’ve been here and twice the service has been bad. First time I had to ask 3 times for ketchup for my fries. The waiter just thought it was funny that he kept forgetting to get it. Last time we came for Father’s Day, I booked for 2.15pm and let them know we were coming with a 1 year old, to make sure this was ok. Got there and wanted to sit outside, we’re told we couldn’t because we hadn’t requested it on the booking. Virtually all the tables were free, and were still free when we left so not entirely sure what that was about. Anyway we then had to carry the stroller up the stairs to get in, negotiate it through the bar, down another set of stairs, through a second room and then to the very back room. At this point the hostess was obviously bored, so just pointed to the table and left. Had to go and find a waiter to ask where we could put the stroller, he disdainfully indicated to the other side of the room. If we had known sitting outside was a whole thing I would have definitely asked, or not brought the stroller. Lesson learned there. We then waited 15 mins for menus, and water. During this time the waiter cleared, cleaned and reset the table next to us. Which remained empty the entire time we were there. Then there’s the food. Me and my partner are both English, born there and raised there. The Yorkshire puddings are good granted. However pretty much everything else is lackluster at best. The roast is an embarrassment. The beef we had was fatty and cold. The roast potatoes were not crispy on the outside or fluffy on the inside and had clearly been reheated. Even if they had been cooked properly in the first place reheated potatoes are just gross. The ‘seasonal veg’ was boiled carrots and broccoli. The gravy is watery and bland, also seemed to have been put on the plate first then everything piled on top. And I mean piled on top, in a pasta bowl so it was really awkward to eat. The horseradish cream, just tastes like cream. Every pub in England can cook a decent roast, this place can’t. I’m sure I’ll be lured back by the promise of a taste of home again at some point, and I’m also sure I’ll leave disappointed and frustrated with...
Read moreI have never written reviews before, but I decided to today since I had to spend my time processing the feeling of being disrespected during our family dinner.
Food was okay, and our table’s server was really nice, But Please, Please do not snort at your customers, especially when you are the first person to greet and seat them.
We were looking for a nice place to have a family dinner, and Jones Wood Foundry came up. Although I saw that the reservations slots were all open and expected the place to not be that busy, I still decided to make a reservation through google since I thought it might give us a better chance to sit at the patio just in case it gets crowded since it was dinner time. However when we got there, we eventually found out that the reservation was not reflected on the system since it was made not long ago.
Yes, I understand that it might have been a tight reservation—However, this does not give you the right to snort in front of us. As soon as I heard the snort along with a sneering facial expression, I felt extremely disrespected. And when I asked why, she had to teach me that in this case, it is right for us to just do a walk in and check if there are any seats—which I do know since I live here, but decided to still give it a try for the patio seats—and that we couldn’t sit at the patio anyways since it was full.(which was not a problem at all for us)
Yes, I do apologize for making a tight and un-processable reservation. But even though that may have been the case, an option of putting them in a nicer way, or at least just taking us to a seat that’s available without disrespecting would have been a better choice.
Because of this, I couldn’t focus on the conversation with my family at all, and don’t even remember how the food tasted since I was busy pushing down my upset feeling. I feel bad and sorry for my family who were visiting me in town, and was expecting a lovely evening in such a...
Read moreHorrible service, and unsafe to eat food.
Our party of 5 was seated at 2:30pm. It was busy, but not packed, and there were a few open tables. We were seated at the same time as a group of 6, and couple beside us. It took 20 minutes for our order to be taken. After that, 45 minutes passed without seeing our waitress. I finally flagged her down and called attention to this, and she went to “check on it.” 5 minutes go by l, and now the manager comes to ask if we had even ordered food. We tell her yes, lots, and we’re waiting. Our waitress comes out to say it’ll just be another 5 minutes. It becomes immediately clear that our food was never put in at all. The table beside us and the group of 6 have all been served, eaten, and are now paying and leaving. Another 10 minutes go by, and finally our food is served. One problem, our friend who ordered the bacon steak finds it almost completely uncooked. Pork that is beet red in the middle, and even looks raw on the outside. Completely unsafe to consume, let alone serve after all of this ordeal. He sends it back and thankfully it was actually cooked this time. We were all very frustrated by this point, so we went to speak to the manager, who offered no apology and attempted to blame the situation on them being busy. By this point in the afternoon the restaurant was half empty. At long last we go to pay, having already missed the group appointment we had planned for afterward. The manager apologized for the slow service, but offered no compensation or discount.
Later that night, not one but two of us would become sick. Curiously enough, neither of them was the one who ate the pork. Lord knows what else must be going on in that kitchen.
This was completely unacceptable from start to finish, and the worst brunch experience i have had in...
