As a food enthusiast who values quality dining experiences, my birthday outing with my family was disappointing. Our culinary journey was underwhelming, starting from chewy calamari and forgettable fries to disappointing sticky wings. The slightly better tuna tostada and corn ribs did little to elevate the experience. Learning our polite waitress was new and not fully acquainted with the menu explained the lackluster dish recommendations but didn’t compensate for the meal’s shortcomings, including a rubbery cod ceviche, mediocre steak tacos (Burria), and a bland, textureless tres leches cake.
Adding to the discomfort was being seated at a cafe table that barely accommodated the plates for three adults, further diminishing our experience. While the restaurant’s ambiance suggested a decent spot for drinks, it fell short of providing the quality and comfort I seek in dining out. For those looking for a truly outstanding culinary experience nearby, I would instead recommend Oxomoco, a Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant on Greenpoint Avenue, known for its exceptional food and...

It took 25 minutes after our 9 PM reservation time to be seated, and we didn’t get a comped drink or anything. We booked a regular table, were asked if we wanted a communal table instead but due to the DJ it was loud to begin with and felt that would be too much. After 20 minutes we were asked if we wanted to sit outside under a heat lamp instead in the backyard where nobody else was sitting…it was 48 degrees out. The hostess made a passive aggressive comment that she didn’t like to ask people to leave but she would tell the table that was cutting into our reservation time to go because we didn’t want to sit outside. Respectfully, it is your job to do that. We saw on the iPad their reservation was at 7:30…more than enough time to eat dinner considering we were personally in and out in an hour
Enjoyed the tuna tostada, ramp quesadilla. Flautas and enchiladas were just okay. The El Panzon cocktail was fabulous though! Probably a better stop during...
Read moreJust want to add to the chorus of saying that the food is mediocre! Salsas were good, but chips left a huge pool of oil in their bowl - frying chips at the correct temperature should have been a given at a place this expensive. And then we waited an hour for soggy cauliflower al pastor and the chilaquiles torta, which while impressive and technically enjoyable, doesn’t really hold a candle to a solid torta a third of the price at a good taco taco truck.
It’s hard out there for an upscale mexican restaurant - at this price point, the bar is way higher than for other cuisines without dirt-cheap, incredible analogues. So while I admit and lament that I’m grading on such a curve, I have to say that this place definitely does not clear that bar.
My cocktail was great though! Although my dining companion had a pretty adverse physical reaction to his and ended up needing to head to the bathroom many times for reasons...
