Seabra Foods — Attraction in Newark

This Portuguese supermarket has all the Portuguese, Brazilian, and Spanish imports and foods that the average household would need, in addition to average American kitchen or household products and foods. Everything is good quality. We like the reasonably priced buffet, including the salad bar, with a good selection of tasty, ready to eat meals including various types of cooked fish and meats. You can take the food upstairs to a cafe area to eat, where they also have a coffee bar (or tea) with Portuguese pastries, cakes, etc. It has never been crowded and it is a good place to relax over some tea and bread or enjoy a healthy or reasonably healthy prepared meal.

The only caveat to the supermarket is that the prices are a little high compared to ShopRite or other mainstream grocery store. The staff, including management, is friendly and helpful. Management and some of the counter people speak English, but not all, Portuguese and Spanish predominate.

We were just at your store and there's a woman in management with the name Valencia she started a fight with my mother. As the very kind cashier lady was ringing up my items my mother was with me and asked me to grab a soda I quickly got it and when I turned around this lady from management went to the cashier lady pushed her, opened her register said that she was closed and couldnt charge us for the soda and then told my mom to go to another register to buy the soda. My mother asked why and she slammed the register into the drawer the cashier was shaken and just looked at her in confusion so we told the cashier that we are sorry she is being treated this way she charged us for the soda and she said sorry as well then as we are leaving the store the manager Valencia is arguing with the cashier and we just felt like that was so cruel, disrespectful and abusive to the cashier and us. If I could rate this place 0 I would. I have went here once a month for the past 9 months and bought 4 to 8 cases of redbull every month, because I have a little after hours store in my apartment building where I sell them. And at least 6 of the 8 or 9 times I went there, I was chased down after I left. Through the parking lot, by security guards and employees both, and accused of stealing/not paying. Showed them the receipt the first few times. After it happened 3 times I admit I was very unhappy because it felt like an insult. Then it happened multiple times again. I ended up flipping out on the guy the last time. I felt disrespected. This place is also very overpriced and has subpar fresh produce compared to some other places. However, it's in an area where they dominate because they are one of the only supermarkets in the area. I will never go back to this...
