Check out the Tryp Wyndham in Newark, New Jersey, just steps away from Military Park and NJPAC and a short walk from Rutgers University and the Prudential Center. Newark is vibrant in the arts, and for my artistic people thinking about taking a trip to my hometown, I had a great experience at the hotel. I'm very thankful to have the opportunity to travel and share my work with communities. During a Q&A after a recent reading at the festival, I was asked, "How has writing changed your life?" and I remember mentioning something along the lines of writing allowing a different life than what had been planned for me otherwise. Talking to large crowds and checking into hotels wasn't a thought in my mind, but now that it is my reality, I'm always #grateful. Thank you, NJPAC and the Dodge Poetry Festival for being a part of my writing experience. #poetry #poetrylover #poetryoftiktok #poetrylovers #poets #poetsoftiktok #nanoinfluencer #hotelreview #microinfluencer #influencer #writewithme #bookstagram #newpoetry #bookreviews #bookaesthetic #poet #bookstagrammer #discoverunder10k #smallcontentcreator #selfpublishing #selfpublished #selfpublishingtips #selfpublishingjourney #howtopublish #howtoselfpublish #hotelvlog #travelwithme #writer #writerlife #behindthescene #newark #travelvlog #hotelreview #trypwyndham #wyndhamhotel #wyndham #booked #travelingauthor #dodgepoetryfestival #dpf2024

Pro’s: Nice clean room and bathroom, comfortable beds, and quiet rooms. It’s very close to Newark Airport, and convenient to get in and out of Manhattan. Newark Penn Station is about an 8 minute walk away (the train ride into Manhattan is about 20-30 minutes), and the hotel also has free shuttles to Newark Penn Station every 30 minutes. Free hotel shuttle to the Newark airport every 30 minutes as well. Blackout blinds in the room to block out the city lights. In room safe, Keurig coffee maker, and a really decent sized mini fridge in the room. Con’s: There’s not a whole lot of restaurants or things to do nearby - at least not that I found. Most of the restaurants and bars seem to be located in bars, and that’s just not my cup of tea. I always find those places overrated. I know this is very minor, but the thermostat was really confusing - it had a “vane” mode on it. Just what the hell is that?? No couch or chair to lay back on and watch tv - only the desk chair (which didn’t have wheels on it) and the bed. Again, something minor, but the decor in the room was kind of strange - they had a corner with wallpaper on it that showed how tall Shaquille O’Neal is, and some random quotes from other famous. I racked my brain trying to figure out what the whole theme was. They have a hotel restaurant and bar, but I only had their breakfast buffet there on one of the mornings of my stay. It was $15.95 - and it wasn’t all that great. The scrambled egges were dry, sausage was good, bacon was good, and the fruit was fresh. Service was just “meh” especially considering I was the only one in the restaurant that morning. In summary, this is a very convenient location and a nice hotel. I will stay there again - I can overlook the Cons listed above. As I said, it's very convenient if you are moving between New Jersey locations and Manhattan locations on different days - VERY convenient.

Hello friends Abe here again. This time I am in Newark, NJ on a business trip. I had the unpleasant experience staying here at the TRYP Wyndham location. Upon arrival to the airport I had to call the hotel three times to ask for a shuttle ride to the hotel. The agent was rude over the phone basically told me I need to wait! I waited a full hour in the cold for a shuttle bus and it’s only a 10min drive to and from the two locations. When I got to the hotel I was greeted by Juan who seemed unhappy to either be there or with his job. No welcome, no sense of hospitality, just miserable! So I felt miserable too. The lobby was okay could use some housekeeping. There is a self check out mini store with water and candies and a couple of toiletries. There is a basement restroom and a fitness room. Also needs housekeeping. I stayed in room 703, because my original reservation was not even processed even though I did all the online paperwork, I got a different room from what I actually wanted. When I got to room 703 it was filthy, floor dirty, toilet did not work, shower filthy, lucky for me the bed was made. Basically the room was not clean and pretty much rundown. There is an onsite restaurant called Dutch, but is over priced. I figure why try it when my experience so far is unpleasant. In addition you have the hall ways smelling like weed. There is also on site park with a $20 fee per day. Would I come back and stay here, NO! My tip for management, hire and pay staffs who are customers obsessed and make them feel at home like they value. Make sure you have someone actually cleaning and maintaining the establishment. Appearance is crucial. Last but not least that security guard you have would be more useful if he is inside making sure everyone is feeling safe not outside on his smart phone checking social media.

Well...this review caused internal conflict. My international flight was scheduled to arrive too late to make it on to my home airport. So I booked a one night stay at this hotel because it had decent reviews, an airport shuttle and a really cool vibe. Problem#1: I called to notify them of a late check-in in the morning and was told I had until 2am to check in. They still gave away my reservation for 2 double beds and had to put us in a "family" room that had a queen bed and very uncomfortable pull down twin bed. Problem#2: Once our flight landed, we made our way over to the hotel shuttle part of Newark Airport. We were told the shuttle ran every 30 minutes. We waited for almost an hour and a half and called the hotel twice asking where the shuttle was. The last thing you want to do at 10:30pm is stand in 30 degree weather waiting for a shuttle. The shuttle was one of the reasons I picked the hotel. I'm not sure why it took so long. It only took about 10 minutes to get from the airport to the hotel. Now the next day seemed like an entirely different hotel. We got up and took advantage of their breakfast buffet. They had a very good selection of food that was all very fresh and delicious. Also, the shuttle driver left on time and dropped us off at the appropriate spot. The staff was very friendly as well. This is why I'm conflicted. We were only there one night. The awful things that happened the night before when we were jetlagged and exhausted could have been a fluke. So I gave the hotel a 3 star rating. Not sure if I'll give them a second chance but I'm not definitely ruling them out. 🙂

I would have given this hotel 4/5 star rating but they sold our room the first night. To give more context our flight got delayed and that just caused a domino affect on our travel times. I called the hotel in the evening around 10pm (after getting off our flight) to let them know we're going to be super late. When we arrived after 3am the front desk said they sold the room we reserved and paid for. We were not happy with this but at least they got us a room around the block. Later that day when we went back to check in they said we were marked as no show, so they definitely need to get there booking fixed. The good - Comfortable bed Spacious room The meh- Just a little bit too far from penn station Little details in the room were unpolished. Not really sure how clean the room really was. Tv did not work Previous people put a plastic bag over the smoke detector and cleaning didn't remove it. The bad- No refillable soaps Walls are thin (and at least in our experience the people staying there are rowdy) Hallways smell of smoke and a bit of weed They'll sell your hotel room even if you call.
