J & W Hardware Inc — Attraction in Newberry Township

First time there today. Was sooooo weird. Knew what I was looking for, the fella asked if I needed help, and I said no not yet. I prefer to find my stuff cause you never know if you find a better option while looking 😁. Anyways, this old guy just continues to stare at me. Like bro doesn’t have anything at all to do today. I was looking through boxes of bolts and stuff and the guy goes, “please pull the boxes out all the way before opening it or you’re gonna break the cardboard lids”. I’m like… oh, ok sure. Well he proceeds to stand there doing nothing but staring. Some of the larger boxes don’t come out all the way cause the drawers are kinda crappy, but I made a point to slide at least the box out the whole way before opening it. He comes walking up to me, tried to push me out of the way and goes, “I told you to pull the draws out the whole way”, I just left him screw around with it till he got it out, while I stood my ground and kept looking for what I needed. He was touching me while doing it, but would not give up. Like he had no concept of personal space whatsoever.

I really think it’s incredibly unprofessional to hover over someone like that, and even more, invade their personal space enough that you’re touching them up.

The guys are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I just don't want to be stalked when I am in the store. The last time I was in the store, I couldn't decide on the size wrench I wanted. I turned and there was a guy hiding at the end cap watching me. I was furious! I have been coming to this store since I guess when it opened. If I remember correctly, the cash registers used to be at the other end of the store. If you are so worried that people are stealing, then put a detector at the door (I would gladly walk through it). Stop making people feel like they're being creeped on. I really hate coming to your store anymore!! My [huge] family and I have been great customers of yours for all these years. We own farms and used your store as a quick go-to for all our needs. We'll see if it's worth...

Recently bought a home in the area and have been doing a lot of home improvement lately. I've been shopping at Lowes until I discovered J&W literaly 5 minutes down the road so I switched to support my local small business. I've shopped there faithfully for months. Went in there today for some items and to have a can of paint shaken while I shop as I had done so before and was told they no longer shake paint after it has been opened. ??? How is it even possible to tint paint without opening it? Do they not shake the paint they sell? Customers beware! Mind you, this can I brought in was a month old, not damaged or rusted.
