South Beach Grocery — Attraction in Newport

Guy that was working in evenings was truly amazing!! My 5 month pregnant friend and I went in on a Sunday evening! My friend had some major pregnancy cravings and rembered when she was younger she used to get the most amazing Candied Salmon there! When we pulled up only and only the little store was open! My friend said well they are the same building with a gate separating them! She went in asked the man at counter if he had a way to get some of? That's all she wanted she told him! We looked around he kindof we thought went in back for a minute? He came back with a sample cup of the salmon for each one of us! OMG WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU SERIOUS? HE WAS AMAZING!!! TOTALLY GAVE US THE MOST AMAZING SALMON I HAVE EVER HAD!!! So thank you to the best clerk. I have been wondering if there where any left! Retail life is tough!! Nope. Wanted fresh crab legs and was encouraged by the steaming crabs pulled from the pots out front. Instead we received a slimy, cold $30 crab that had been in the fridge for who knows how long. The chowder had the consistency of, and tasted like 80's kindergarten classroom paste. The highlight of this very low bar, was the shrimp stuffed with crab and cheese. Really it mostly tasted like deep fried breading which was a huge step up from cold, slimy crab. I don't know, maybe it's not crab season and the fish and chips are the way to go. Has been there for 37 years I was told and you can tell it. Love these places as new comes in and they need to expand they just add on so you have an eclectic mix of new products and advertising but the old is still there. Mis matched floor and levels, adapting old fixtures and displays are wonderful to see. I found a display that holds postcards and had the newer kind that were magnetic for the refrigerator. These are also 3-D and had some I had not seen before so I scored big time. This is a neat place and those living in South Beach have a nice store. I recommend this store to anyone that likes small...
