Escape Room Niles (Formerly Escape History) — Attraction in Niles

Update from 5/7: After hearing I wasn't totally satisfied with my visit, the owner, Josh, reached out to me. He invited me back to try another room, so my group did the Lincoln room and had a much better experience! Josh and his wife were very friendly and helpful. The Lincoln room was much better designed than the Titanic room, and the puzzles were very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this room.

We did the Titanic and the Mummy theme at Escape History. Most of our group had done an escape room before, and we were all super excited to try out a local place! Unfortunately we weren't blown away by the experience. Our game master didn't seem very happy about being there or getting us excited about the experience at all. At one point when we needed a hint we were told it would be a minute since the other room that was going on also needed a hint. Not a great thing to hear when we are racing against the clock! The room was decorated with nice vintage looking items which help set the scene. Overall we thought the room was decently challenging, but we would have liked to solve more puzzles rather than just finding combinations to locks. One of the few puzzles that didn't involve padlocks actually malfunctioned and opened before we had found all of the pieces. We ended up coming out of the room slightly frustrated from mechanical issues in the room and the nature of our game master. One of our players stuck himself on one of the exposed screws in the room, so that may be something to watch for with children. While our group did enjoy our experience, I'd say this escape room definitely has some areas...

Not fun if you want a challenge. Our game master repeatedly gave us hints unprompted when we asked for none, in many instances when we were about to figure something out. Or I would ask my friend a question and she would answer on the loudspeaker. Really made it less immersive and was honestly a little frustrating. What’s the point of having a “hold this button for a hint” feature if I’m gonna be walked through it when I didn’t ask? Also she came in the room and started cleaning up when we were almost finished. It was overall awkward and felt like she wanted us out of there. Several aspects of the game were broken (things didn’t open when they should’ve, etc). The final hint was available to us as soon as the game started because the game wasn’t reset properly. We quite literally could have gotten out within 20 minutes due to this error, but we thought there was more that we needed to figure out. Wasn’t...

We were very excited to experience the AL Capone escape room. The girl working was nice however she was not very knowledgeable about the whole thing. We hit a snag and she came in the room and said the code we needed was missing! She mentioned that people are always taking things. Isn't it the responsibility of the establishment to ensure each guest has a great experience? Needless to say it was disappointing that we never had a chance. Hopefully this isn't the normal experience for people because its not how we would choose to spend an...
