This was a very disappointing experience, but before I say anything else I want to say that the entire staff was wonderful.
Given this is a 2 hour train ride we were expecting to see a lot of beautiful scenery. The reality is that the train travels very slowly through mostly what amounts to an access road view. For the majority of the trip you get to see such sights as parking lots, abandoned cars, piles of rail ties, people's back yards, close up train cars, dense brush, electric exchange boxes, discarded machinery parts, and various other neglected items. There are very brief glimpses of landscape, but you'd see them much better from your own car.
The payoff of the trip, the view of the falls at the end, is a few minutes stop for a crowded push to the back of the train to try to get a short glimpse of the view, which is nice but nearly impossible to photograph due to the crowds and foggy/dirty windows and certainly not worth the price of admission in my opinion.
Not only was there little to nothing to see during the ride, but for some reason the majority of people on the train thought their very young children would like to have to sit still for a couple hours. With all the unhappy kids crying and the adults trying to talk over each other it was incredibly loud and unpleasant. Not the proprietor's fault, but still, it's another reason to save your money if you're expecting a relaxing ride through...
Read moreAlong with our friends, we took our kids to the North Bend Depot for the steam train adventure to the Northwest Railway Museum.
Our kids were ranging in age from 10-years-old to 16-years-old, so they may have been a bit old for the trip. Us adults had fun though, and even though the kids reported feeling “bored” on the train, we were happy to get them out of the house!
The steam train was on the older, more historic side, so do not go in expecting everything to be in pristine condition. You will find seats with holes in them and that recline to a point of not being able to sit back up. It is to be expected though, so don’t get in a huff about it!
The staff were nice and it was cool seeing them dressed in the authentic conductor uniforms. Took us back in time and we were able to really get into the adventure!
It was awesome to see the inclusive representation at the Northwest Railway Museum. The museum itself was amazingly setup, and we had a blast playing on the safe and enclosed railroad tracks! Fun to play, when you don’t think you are going to get run over by a train, lol!
Use the restroom before you hop in the train because there aren’t any restrooms on board. Also, dress for the weather because the train weather will reflect the outside.
All and all a fun adventure, and I recommend checking it out if you...
Read moreThis is a great trip for train fanatics! My mother and I took my son (the train fanatic) and my daughter (not into trains but didn’t have a choice), and they had a great time. On the weekend, you can ride a steam train. Apparently every July, Thomas the train comes to town! I personally find trains boring, so if you do not love trains then you probably will not enjoy this. But if you love someone who loves trains, you will have a blast because they will have a blast. The steam train is old and very slow, but a cool experience (heightened by contagious joy of a three year old). I would suggest boarding the train at the Snoqualmie depot instead of this one because that is where the book store is—you can arrive early and kids can play with Thomas wooden train toys, and even get ice cream across the street while you wait. There isn’t anything to do at the...
