Drove 4 hours to visit a friend who is chronically ill, this is her only freedom. She loves the staff and I agree, they are extremely friendly. However, after seeing the number of tier credits she has ( she is a K member) and she has a host, I don't know why she doesn't save her money and go back home to gamble, where she won often and the best perk, she was comped, free rooms, dinners, gifts, extra free play, some casinos gave her spa treatments, trips to Vegas. I never had a host at any casino I went with her but I was always invited to the free shows, getaways, dinners,,etc. I was extremely upset when we were there for a few hours and her host never even checked on her and it wasn't busy. What kind of host doesn't Check on their players. I can't wait for her health to get better, or she gives up on getting better in that state, so she can go back to the casinos that atleast value her. She took me to the Cleveland location afterwards and the staff are extremely rude there, but she won more than she spent at Thistledown. I read other reviews and seen people winning without their card. I have been gambling for over 30 years and this place makes me wonder if they do watch your card Example, she was playing a game that had to hit by $50 or by $500. The mini was at $38, after she spent $70 in that machine, the mini suddenly went away but she didn't win it and that's the only kind of that game in the casino so nobody else won it. Then, I'm walking around, seeing people win hundreds of free spins without their card. The tier credits she has would have got her trips every month to Vegas at America in East Chicago, free food daily, free hotel ststs fir an entire month at fourwinds and Ameristar ( this Is a fact because she use tito book 4 free weeks) free cigarettes, etc. Another HUGE disappointment , she showed me her flyers ( trying to convince me to come back, she was showing me everything). They decrease her free play EVERY MONTH, but this little mgm casino, she only goes to once a month, keeps her free play the same every 3 months like every casino we had been too. I had gambled with her 15 years all over the USA. She hasn't been to Ameristsr since she moved to Ohio about a year ago and they still send her offers every month! She spends no less than 2 grand a month and I don't see no appreciation. Another key factor in disappointment regarding both casinos. I went to get her a water, while she played. I over heard 2 gentleman asking a woman where a host was who apparently doesn't work there anymore. I over heard this woman say, she is the new host and SHE WAS drinking alcohol, talking to the waitress! I asked my friend, who was her host, she said, someone who randomly emails her. I guess, if this place allows their women host to spend their working hours, making friends with the bartenders and drinking on the job, that explains why they don't do a great job or even remotely close to making their guest feel welcomed. As a former host over 25 years ago, I am applauded to see the lack of responsibility the host shows and irresponsible activity on the floor! You can't say, she had a virgin drink, you could smell the alcohol, I was standing right next to that host who was talking to a bartender when she got interrupted by two gentlemen. Cleveland, you better be prepared to be constantly harassed by homeless people, asking you for money in the casino or trying to sell stolen shoes, clothes, etc. Cleveland is a tourist attraction, why are they allowing homeless people in there to do such things!?? I had to tell a man to leave an elderly woman alone, I didn't know because she looked very frieghten. My friend told a security guard and they did nothing, so I stepped in. The only positive thing I can say is, the staff, besides that host had a very welcoming attitude. She wants me to drive back for New Years Eve, but nobody could pay me to go there and watch us both lose with no...
Read moreIt's possible that I've not been there in maybe 5 years. Around 7pm on Thursday, I finally had the opportunity to go. Initially, the parking garage was satisfactory. It's not impressive, but it's alright. There is a shortage of handicap parking spaces and a significant amount of construction. I observed the security guards walking and numerous overhead cameras. Cameras, great! Entrance was impressive, the first half of the casino was really nice, very impressive, well lit. The new and bigger slot machines are great, not my many l like but fine. While they are large and colorful, they take up a lot of space, so I felt like if it wasn't for the size of those machines they could have no others.
When you go into the back of the casino, that's where you find the old but goodies. I was a little disappointed because you can tell that little maintenance or upkeep. Older slots look like they've been there for 10 years which they probably had. The machines widows were scratchy and hard to see through cloudy glass. I couldn't really see where some certain symbols were landing, which was very disappointing.
There are two smoking rooms. The upstairs room caught my attention. It had big slots, was well-lit, and had a wonderful temperature. I experienced shock and appalled upon my arrival downstairs. It was dark lighting, freezing cold and few ashtrays. There were a few ashtrays filled up at some point. Due to the cold, players leave after 2 minutes. There is a lack of protection from the outdoor elements. The absence of windows, blinds, or even a blue tarp to block that cold wind. Some machines did block a little and outdoor heaters (the ones that worked) did little help against the wind. A couple of players who sat next to me got up 3 minutes later, despite winning.
Finally, the machines themselves. The new machines require a minimum of 88 cents to play. Certain machines have been set up to prevent playing anything below that amount. When did this happen?
In general, I am not interested in going there. All the improvements that they have done in the front part of the casino and the new sports bar are great. But the way they treat smokers downstairs and the overall ragged appearance of the oldie but goodie machines. It's not a...
Read moreWe're not casino people, when Googling "bingo near Solon" it came up. We didn't find anything on the website, so figured we'd head over to check it out. For reference, no bingo, and no card games as we found out.
The two lady security guards were very friendly and sociable, we asked A LOT of questions to which they provided great information.
I have an old players card from the downtown Jack casino, it wouldn't scan in any machine or kiosk. There was no obvious help desk, just the promo desk which as we were told was for vip's only. We finally found the players desk where we could get help, thanks to overhearing another guest. But the two girls at the desk were huddled together talking and giggling, I didn't want to interrupt. So I just got cash out of the atm (I do not recommend) and played without a card.
It's a small place, lots of lights and big game machines, not really for us but everyone around seemed to be having fun. There is a smokers lounge, my friend is a smoker so that was good for her. It's smoky and hot, no a/c just fans. Nice option if you want smoke while losing money lol.
The crowd was rude, I lost count how many times I was nearly run over, pushed or someone walked in front of me. Not the fault of the casino, it's just how people are nowadays.
We walked upstairs *warning, the escalator is permanently out of service" to the horse race area. The track viewing area was nice, there weren't races going on so it was quiet and sunny with the giant walls of windows. The betting area I do not recommend, a guy leared at us as we toured, it was unsettling. Another one followed us around, it was just plain creepy up there. Again, not the fault of the casino, just the type of crowd that betting halls attract.
Overall, I lost $20, by the way the ATM charges $5.99, so in total I lost $25.99 in less than 5 minutes. My friend cashed out $0.25 up, she was happy. We were there maybe 30 minutes, just not our thing. Other casinos have shows and entertainment, more up our alley. If you and your friends want to hang out, outside of the house and you're not out to win money this...
