I recently hosted a birthday party at the children's museum, and I must say that our experience was far from enjoyable. From the moment we arrived until the time we left, it felt like a series of letdowns and missed opportunities. The room we reserved had to be completely prepared for the event includes all decorations and table cloths. They wouldn’t let us in until 15 minutes before the event even though NO ONE was in the room.
Moreover, the staff's lack of enthusiasm and attentiveness further compounded our disappointment. They seemed disinterested and distant, failing to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the children. We expected a vibrant and engaging environment, but instead, we encountered indifference and a general lack of interest in making our visit enjoyable with frowns and a lot of sighs when we asked for things.
To add insult to injury, the food served at the party was simply abysmal. The taste was bland, and the presentation was lackluster. I have had better pizza from tv dinners than the pizza that was served. It was clear that little effort had been put into ensuring the quality of the catering. As a result, many of the children and adults were dissatisfied with the meal. In addition, they literally served tiny and soggy sandwiches. I ordered enough for 50 people, and was literally presented with 30 tiny quarters of a sandwich. Considering the importance of food at any celebration, this was a major disappointment and tarnished the overall experience. In addition, their unlimited lemonade was never refilled. The caterers ignored our request three times for a refill. When I asked for it a third time, the caterer just rolled her eyes and walked away. We also asked for more utensils because they only put enough for half the number of guests, the caterer threatened to charge me more for the request which is absolutely ridiculous.
Considering the steep price we paid for the birthday party package, we had expected a much higher standard of service and quality. Unfortunately, the children's museum failed to deliver on both fronts. It is disheartening to see such potential wasted due to neglect and lack of attention to detail.
I sincerely hope that the management takes this feedback constructively and makes the necessary improvements to enhance the experience for future visitors. Until then, I cannot recommend the children's museum as a venue for birthday parties or any other...
Read moreSoo many kid-focused activities! We were gifted a family membership and had not known about this museum before that. Truthfully, it’s less of a museum and more of a kid-zeum! Less “exhibits” like a typical museum, but all the same, it was a lot of fun! For our first time here, our child quickly tested out most every little station and loved the water-fun portion the best! We intend to come back many more times to see what is most interesting at the time, part of the fun of the learning environment presented is letting your kid explore and be drawn to different things! So that’s what we did!
Live turtles in the front, limited-availability art room too, we were not aware there were set hours for this portion or we would have spent more time there! Overall lots to do and explore and we are happy with our initial visit, looking forward to our next one!
Update: We opted to go today and didn’t arrive right at 9:30. Parking was really crazy, because everyone is aiming to get there at the same time, and likely since it just opened for the day, very few if any cars are leaving to open parking spots for newcomers. Anyway, we get there and park, as we’re walking up to the door, a sign says they are closing today at 1 pm instead of the usually 5:00. Ok.. well we weren’t planning to stay all day, but after a half an hour drive, not sure if we could have known it was closing early? We left at noon after arriving at 10:30. Unsure if there’s a place to notify visitors of that sort of thing before heading there? I understand they welcome groups and parties for private events, but as a museum member, I might plan better knowing that type of thing to...
Read moreThe kohl’s children’s museum is just amazing, it’s a very clean and well put together assortment of great Hands-On adventures and a whole pint sized world of wonders for your littles to explore and enjoy. They offer wonder new mom and me play dates as well as fun traveling exhibits like there current one with PBS Kid’s Nature Cat! There even an awesome natural play land outside for families to enjoy. And a human sized car wash too! There’s so much around every corrner to discover and enjoy even parents can feel like a kid here too. Have your own little jam session in their music room of sounds, water table room or just sit and read too. It’s well worth the drive on out and very reasonable in cost, tons of free parking and excellent eats all near by but there a cafe there too. It’s a little ways of a walk from the Metra, which is down off chestnut, but it’s been some time since I’ve lived /work by here so double check before you do, but the walk is one that most can totally do beautiful houses and a little prairie conservation center are along the way too. You can easily spend a good couple of hours there or a whole day. It’s a top request of our littles to go out to play. Plus they have wonderful story times with fantastic and I know of an upcoming one with a local author here soon. They always have some event of play programs going on so there is always something new. It’s a trains/planes or pretend play fans dream come true. I highly recommend it and know your littles will love it too! Plus their membership has a reciprocal program with like 5 other kid’s museums too it’s a part of their CLIMB program and worth...
