HELP SAVE THE MUSEUM. Attend the village board meeting on Tuesday, February 4 at 7 PM at 2500 E Lake Ave, Glenview. The Glenview Navy air Museum may face closure in the next couple of months due to its inability to afford rent, potentially "floating away like a balloon." Despite hundreds of meetings and promises, the village of Glenview, specifically the park district, has not provided any financial support to the museum. The museum is situated in a small warehouse-type building connected to an old auto body shop just outside Glenview, housing hundreds of artifacts, including two complete flight simulators, a large aircraft engine, uniforms, and photographs. Help preserve our history. The village board meeting starts at 7:30 PM, but organizers will gather in the lobby at 7 PM. As with all village board meetings, anyone wishing to speak will have the opportunity to do so for three minutes each at the meeting's conclusion. Simply fill out an index card at the front door with your name and subject, and you will be given the chance to speak. Please share this event on social media and with your neighbors. Let's not allow this important history to "float away...
Read moreThe lack of historical appreciation we have as a society is nothing short of a tragedy.....which we will ultimately pay the price for. The history surrounding Glenview Naval Air Station, as well as Curtis Field prior should be taught, at the very least locally. People wander around the mall today oblivious to where they step and what occurred there. Glenview's leadership is also directly to blame. They fought tooth and nail to restrict any memorializing to be as minimal as possible. Furthermore, most teachers ought to be ashamed at what's considered curriculum today, no history, civics. Do kids even have to pass the constitution test today to graduate? I bet there's a lot of CRT indoctrination? Oops, shouldn't have said that...I'm sorry,...
Read moreThe Navy air Museum is the “greatest thing Glenview.” The village of Glenview and the Glenview Park District needs to do a much better job of helping them survive. If you can believe that with all the enormous money you made off of selling the property at the Navy air station and all the enormous New property tax they have collected over the last 30 years close to 150 million they have not given one single penny to the museum. If you get a chance, go to the Glenview Village website and click on the TRUSTEEs or village president and send them an email to...
