Im having a hard time with this star selection because the food that we actually ate was phenomenal, the waiter was fantastic and atmosphere great.. but there was just one issue that I feel would normally drop a rating down but I don’t want that to take away from the rest of the review. After eating some delicious bacon-wrapped shrimp, to-die-for fried pickles on a stick and the only Brussel sprouts my wife has actually ever enjoyed, we were looking forward to the medium rare ribeye we ordered. The steak looked nice but when I cut into it it was very well-done, not close to even medium yet alone medium rare. No worries though, very nice waiter acknowledged issue and took it back. When he came back though I was astonished with what he came back with. Not only did it look nothing like a ribeye (there was no cap on it at all- the tenderloin,) when I cut into it was grey in color all the way through (not even pink.) I looked a little closer and was like “this actually doesn’t even look like steak.” I think it was a pork chop.. or maybe a very old New York strip.. I don’t know.. it was very weird though. I know my meat cuts and I couldn’t figure out what that was. The waiter whisked it away before I could examine it further and said “I don’t know what’s going on with the kitchen.” We decided to just cancel the steak order and not try for a 3rd attempt since we were getting further and further from a medium-rare ribeye. The waiter brought us a free dessert and apologized. He was very nice and helpful, and also earlier had made my wife a tasty strawberry ginger lemonade mocktail. If it weren’t for this one incident, we would fully give it 5 starts all the way around… which is why I was having a tough time choosing the correct number of stars to give.. Even with that steak issue, we...
Read moreToyed with giving four stars but only because there’s no online reservations system which seems antiquated in 2023. We booked a reservation for my husband’s birthday on the phone but when we arrived, they were just using a paper and pen calendar and had no record of our reservation. Luckily, they were able to seat us within five mins at a lovely high top by the windows so it all worked out and thus, the five stars.
After the initial minor issue, everything was perfect. Our server was efficient and cheerful. Our drinks came fast and we’re delicious. Husband had an old fashioned and I had a rye Manhattan which was amazing. Had considered a beer and they had a large selection (probably 20 on tap) but as it was a celebration, and we love bourbon, we got the cocktails.
We started with salads (crisp and refreshing) which appropriately came first, and then had entrees. My husband made several alterations to his meal and they all came out exactly correctly. He had the cheeseburger but with turkey instead of beef, and no bacon. It was moist and flavorful. Fries are crinkle fries - crispy goodness. I had the chicken dinner which was cooked nicely with good flavor - slightly sweet but not overly. Coleslaw is thinner than some places which I found refreshing. Nice mashed potatoes. Good sized portion - took home half of it in the Tupperware I brought purposefully for it. We were too full for dessert so apologies but didn’t even see the dessert menu.
And the atmosphere is lovely - we love bourbon and wood so the decor was exactly what we like.
Can’t wait to be back and try...
Read moreStopped by tonight for some food and to sample some whiskey. The owner Rich was kind enough to stop by the table on several occasions to discuss recommendations, give us info on the many options they has and make sure we were happy with the drinks we were trying. Overall very happy with the experience and will be back.
With a focus on the whiskey, there was a great selection for every palate, and their exclusive barrels we tried were excellent. If there’s anything that particularly stands out to you almost every variety is available for purchase as a bottle to take home as well.
We did try some food as well. Wings were excellent. Nashville hot chicken sandwiches were good though could use some more heat. Bread pudding was huge and great as a shared dessert.
My one complaint would be with the lack of a proper menu/list of whiskeys. We could look at what was on display, and ask questions about particular varieties, but there was no complete list that would make it easier to decide what we might like to order. And since the price can vary so much drink to drink, having a view of that without needing to ask regarding each potential variety would be convenient. That said, it sounds like this is in the works and should be available soon. And given that they opened just before things started to shut down last year and have only recently started to reopen fully, I can give a pass on this given the level of...
