Yard House — Restaurant in Northfield Township

I used to love coming here, and hadn’t been in for a while because of the pandemic. I recommended to my boyfriend we come here for his birthday, tonight I left thinking how uncomfortable this experience was. I made a reservation the day before for a booth for two and I asked for a quieter area, as I’ve been seated in louder areas close to the kitchen or a large party in the past. We came in l, and were taken to a booth right next to the kitchen. After ordering drinks I asked our waitress to move us away because it was extremely noisy for us. After 15 minutes of waiting, she returns to say the only other option is next to the patio door which would be noisier. I noticed there were at least 3 empty booths on the other side of the room, nowhere near the patio door and no signs reserving them. After loud dishes being broken right next to me piercing my ears from the kitchen I went to the hostess to ask if they could please move us, that it was very loud and not what I had requested. They immediately moved us, and the manager checked to see if we were happier. The reason I’m giving this two stars is because of our waitress. She continued to wait on us, but seemed angry that I had asked other staff to move after she seemed to have lied to us that there were no other options. Another waiter told us that for my boyfriend’s birthday he could choose any dessert he wanted, and when I told her he wanted the chocolate cake, she said “you can only have a free cheeescake”. She was so rude and seemed to be making things up, it really irritated me. She then started to take extremely long to give us service, and I saw her walking around aimlessly instead of giving us our check that we asked for, it took about 25 minutes to leave. I can’t believe how bad of an experience we had for this birthday dinner out, I wish we could have had a better...

The kitchen staff did a good job. Unfortunately the wait staff did the worst job I’ve ever experienced. We were seated and given water right off the bat, which was promptly dropped by the wait staff onto one of our guests and his phone which was sitting on the table beside him. They didn’t offer to cover his drink or any sort of other compensation that is typically obligated when you drench a guest. She then said she was passing us to another waitress because her shift was ending - we saw her working other tables and even helped deliver our food to us 45 minutes later. Why lie? Just explain that you’re uncomfortable after spilling a drink on us and that’s that.

We were then told we had 30 minutes to place our order and was left without any contact for 20 minutes until I got up to ask the hostess to find our waiter for us.

Another of our guests asked for an alcoholic drink which took 40+ minutes to receive (the restaurant had maybe 10 other tables occupied, it was not busy). The drink arrived with no ice, as it had been sitting out so long that the ice had melted. They didn’t offer to remake it.

When the food arrived, one dish was brought 10 minutes after the others. One of our guests had to wait 26 minutes for a water to be refilled. We notified the first person that he was out of water who responded with “yeah he is” and walked away. Then we notified our waitress and she said she’d be right back with it. Then had to notify her a third time when she walked by before finally getting the water refilled.

Honestly. I feel bad for the kitchen staff because the food was fine. But I’ve never seen a wait staff so apathetic and unconcerned about their guests before. Very sad experience. I will not be going again and will not be recommending any of our guests...
