I had such high hopes! We stopped in after a sports event and The Glen was BOOMING! It was a GORGEOUS summer evening with all other restaurants jammed with patrons so a bit surprised to see we were the only ones at Dawg Park when we arrived.
My son and I ordered a cheeseburger with cheddar, sweet potato fries, combo (Italian Beef/Sausage) extra juicy with sweet peppers and fried pickles with a small drink each. Our bill was almost $50 and aside from the soda and breading on the fried pickles, our meal wasn't even average.
I was expecting a traditional combo sandwich but IYKYK. This wasn't it. The beef was "okay" and certainly not busting out of the bread in a hearty Chicago beef fashion. The sausage tasted like it was just about to go bad - a bit on the ripe side. I took one bite and put it back in the dog bowl. Sweet peppers were grilled and similar to what you might find in a pepper & egg sandwich, not on a beef combo. I took one bite of my son's burger and asked why he didn't say something; it was luke warm and just a notch over raw. Cooked on the outside but I think the other toppings and flavors kept him from noticing how undercooked it was. He said he was pretty hungry and didn't care. I can tell you, he cared when we arrived home and trying to cure the "issue" with Pepto and Immodium for almost 17 hours now. I don't think his burger was bad, just undercooked and praying it doesn't escalate. We've all had a stomach bug and a burning rear and it literally just has to pass.
The breading on the fried pickles though?!?! YUM! That was truly it. The decor was adorable and love that it was pet friendly. The owner is a very kind man and pleasant enough BUT...pleasantries are great but having GREAT food is what makes a difference.
Hoping they last as I'd much rather support a family owned business than a big box chain but...sadly, we...
Read moreI was really excited to try this place after seeing all the good reviews. I have kids too & my oldest was excited to come here. The restaurant itself is nice, "Instagram aesthetic" as my daughter would say. Lol. The food and service were the problem. Upon going inside, I asked the manager what he recommends to try as it's my first time eating there. He recommends the "crazy curry chicken" so I order it. I spend $35 for two people. Upon trying the sandwich, I nearly gagged. I couldn't stand the smell... the sandwich itself was a mess. The sauce on the chicken was just....off... I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me who felt this way so I had my family members try the sandwich and if they liked it they would have been willing to switch. No one liked it. I went to the manager and told him... "I literally never do this but is there ANY way that I could get something else" and I apologized but explained I literally just couldn't fathom the sandwich at all. He told me no because there is nothing wrong with it but I could order something else and pay. Now, I had just spent $35 & this is my first time here. So I said it's fine, I'll just eat the fries for dinner & gave the sandwich to him. I was really upset that he wasn't willing to offer a simple cheeseburger or something to satisfy a new customer. After awhile, I think he felt bad so he offered me something else. I explained to him that I was upset about his initial reaction because it felt like he didn't care whether I liked it or not & didn't care to have a customer come back or not in the future. He offered to make me a cheeseburger to go and I accepted. I said medium well for the cheeseburger and was excited to finally eat something. I get home... and the cheeseburger was RAW. so disappointing. Unfortunately I won't...
Read moreI've seen pictures of this restaurant on Instagram and I was finally in the area. So I decided to give it a try. The Decor was so Cute with the hanging chairs with wall grass. And the puppy wall paper along the wall was very creative.
While I was standing in line waiting to order I noticed everyone cooking wearing masks (which is a plus) the man at the front counter didn't have one which is ok because he wasn't in front of the food. I also noticed there was a young man serving the food that had no mask on. I understand it's not mandatory anymore. But my opinion is if you work with food and you see alot of people you should be wearing a mask. You really never know until it's too late. Also, no matter how busy it is you should have time to clean tables. Every table in the restaurant was dirty & sticky. I cleaned the table I sat at. Not acceptable at all. (Especially, since everything just opened back up things should be sanitized)
I ordered the Cali Deluxe Dawg which had Applewood Bacon, Sriracha Ranch, Avocado, Onions, and toasted garlic (there was hardly any bacon in my hot dog just small little tiny pieces,) it was served in a dog bowl. But anyways it was just okay. Nothing out of the ordinary. I enjoy the sweet potatoe fries. My friend on the other hand ordered the BBQ Pulled Pork Rice Bowl. And let me tell you it was not appealing at all. It literally looked like dog food. My friend ended up throwing it away because the texture tasted so bland with all the BBQ sauce and coleslaw on top. They should put the coleslaw on the side or something. It did not look like the picture on there website at all! Sadly, I will not be returning to this...
