First time visiting GWB. The house was packed but since we were just stopping in for two beers and sharing an app we thought it wouldn't be too long. Well two hours later we were paying the bill...
It took about 15 minutes to simply put in a beer and app order. Followed by another 15 minutes to get those two beers. Yup that's right 30 minutes from the time we sat down to get our beer. The beers were good, nothing special. Your typical run of the mill craft beer.
When the waitress dropped off the beer (30 minutes) she let us know the kitchen was a little backed up. Our response no problem. Fast forward 1 hour, as we were just about to walk away from the table when our single app (Mexican Street Corn Dip) was delivered. I made a short comment to the waitress about the length of time and I was bombarded with excesses for the next 30 seconds. Gosh, it must have been my fault the kitchen was backed up... I took the blame she was passing down and let her move her poor attitude to another table.
No waitress came back by... After waiting for 30 minutes (2 hours in total) we flagged down a waitress to get our check.
Needless to say first impressions are everything and this one was a total failure! If you are having a big party(which the were) PREPARE FOR IT! Your other customers should not be penalized for your poor planning and preparations.
Some side notes: as we sat outside we observed what appeared to be a middle aged man with a larger build walling about and chatting with what appears to be some regulars. He was in and out the employee door and at times seated with a women and a dog on the patio. If this person was a manager or employee then for god's sake he was not reading the room and helping were he...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI really want to like this place.
Iāve given it multiple attempts, 5 to be exact. All memorable for the wrong reasons.
Firstly, let me say the staff are really friendly, welcoming and apart from one experience (which I will detail but I donāt think it was her fault) Iāve always enjoyed my interactions with them.
Letās talk beer. Porters, stouts or the like shouldnāt be clear. The texture is off and it tastes artificially flavored. The spicy pickle beer is just pickle beer served with a Kroger pickle and chili oil. I find that offensive to the craft of finding a way to brew the beer at a minimum. Itās a travesty on the palate.
The other beers arenāt much better. The porter isnāt a porter and Iām pretty sure any flavors are from artificially added flavors after the brewing process. The porter taste and feel like Heineken darkened and flavored with flavoring agents.
My last time at the restaurant portion of things was when I tried the buffalo burger I was hungry and excited for a burger, gave order for medium well. It came to my table not medium or medium rare but still cold pink on the inside. I noted it to the server who said they would talk to the chef and the next thing that happened was the check was dropped. No words, no replacement, I didnāt even get the fries on the plate back. Iām pretty sure the āchefā or owner was like - drop the check.
I took friend here to see if it was just unlucky or maybe they were having a tough few months and they too were like this is absolute trash beer. Iāve never seen him leave booze on the table and his beer was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had a flight first and liked them all. The card to write your choices doesn't give you much room to write your choices with the thick marker but we're "here for the beer" on a very cold winter Sunday so not a big deal. The door to the room directly opens into the room so it was cold the entire time we were there sitting on the metal chairs. It looked like the Bar and some high tops got padded seats. Live and learn. Next time we'll upgrade our seats to the fancy seats so we don't have drafty cold butts. Also...too bad there isn't a break or buffer before you enter the tap room to help keep the cold out. But I'll put up with a lot for good beer and this beer is top notch. We tried the dill pickle beer with the added habanaro (see the red dots). Fun. Surprisingly good if you are a fan of the dill pickle flavor of which I am. Another favorite was the People's Champ American IPA. My taste buds were smiling with every sip. Impressive place even with the simple (mainly black) yet elegant decor that is light on the Buffalo theme and has a wall that reminded me of the Squid Games and had nothing to do with Great White Buffalo and probably more to do with being in upscale Northville. I'd definitely recommend the beer and we'd go back in a hot minute and probably sit at the bar on the upscale warmer...
