Ambiance and Atmosphere: Parmenter's Northville Cider Mill retains its charming, rustic vibe, perfect for a brisk fall day. While it seems a bit less bustling than in pre-COVID times, it still offers a cozy and nostalgic experience. The outdoor seating area is lovely, though it could use a few more trash cans equipped with napkins or sanitary wipes to handle all the sticky treats.
Menu and Food Quality: We indulged in their cinnamon sugar and plain donuts – the only two options, but both absolutely delicious. We also grabbed some cashews, other nuts, a bag of apples (not organic, for those wondering), and the delightful "dipper" – sliced apple with caramel, available with or without nuts (we went with nuts). And, of course, no visit would be complete without their classic cider. We didn’t venture to the alcohol side this time, but the cider alone was worth the trip.
Service: The staff at Parmenter's were very nice and accommodating. The line moved reasonably fast, which is always a plus. They might not have much to accommodate beyond apples, nuts, and juice, but they do it with a smile. One suggestion: putting up signs to clearly display the menu options could help newcomers feel less pressured and more prepared when they get to the counter.
Value for Money: For a quintessential fall experience and high-quality treats, Parmenter's offers good value. The prices are reasonable, and the quality of the donuts and cider makes it a worthwhile adventure.
Cleanliness: The mill itself is clean, but with all the sugary and sticky goodies, having more napkins or sanitary wipes available near trash cans would be a great addition. Sticky fingers are part of the fun, but a little extra help to clean up would be appreciated.
Special Notes or Highlights: Don’t miss the "dipper" – it’s a fun, tasty treat that combines the best of apples and caramel. The cider is a must-try, and it's perfect for sipping as you stroll around the mill. If it's your first time, take a moment to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the simple pleasures of fall.
Conclusion: Parmenter's Northville Cider Mill offers a delightful fall adventure with delicious donuts, refreshing cider, and a charming atmosphere. While it may feel a bit quieter than in the past, it still captures the essence of a perfect autumn day. Whether you're a local or a first-time visitor, it's a sweet spot to...
Read moreDoughnuts. You must get the spice doughnuts at Parmenter's. They are, hands down, the best doughnuts I have ever had. Ever. This is saying a lot, because growing up, my dad delivered doughnuts from two bakeries, and I became a doughnut lover at a wee age. My husband and kids agree that there the best. How do they make doughnuts that are so light and fluffy on the inside, and aren't the least bit greasy? The ducks and geese that flock to the creek behind Parmenter's also enjoy the plain doughnuts, and the wonderful staff here will give you free "duck doughnuts," which are misfits not deemed good enough to sell. Kids and adults alike can be found out back surrounded by waterfowl, all vying for their fill of sugary goodness.
Weekends are crazy busy here, so expect to wait in line. If you bring your kids, there is playground equipment for them to play on while they wait. There is a craft show every weekend until it gets too cold for outdoor shopping. Items range from cute knit hats, to jewelry, to essential oils, and more. Expect your kids to find something they want you to buy for them. 😀 If you're hungry, there is a hotdog stand, as well as a nut hut.
Parmenter's makes its own cider, and guests can watch the process. The cider is sold inside, along with doughnuts (did I mention that they're phenomenal?), apples, caramel apples, fudge, and seasonal decorations. Beer and wine are in a separate building on the other side of the parking lot. If you want to drink cider while munching on doughnuts, there are benches and tables on the grounds. Be prepared to share your space with bees, as they also thoroughly enjoy cider. In the late Fall, they set picnic tables up inside, which makes for a nice place for a date. 😘 I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your visit as my family...
Read moreI’d give Parmenter’s Northville Cider a hundred stars if I could! I grew up going to Parmenter’s cider mill, way back when it was considered a trip to the country. . Yes, I am old. 😆 The cider mill has been in business since 1873, and has only changed ownership very few times, and the family who owns and operates it has kept the tradition of a true blue Michigan cider mill going. Their apple cider is freshly pressed, and flash pasteurized, and none of the deep, rich apple cider flavor is sacrificed due to the pasteurization. It makes it safe for everyone to drink, and it’s the best cider I’ve ever had. Their spiced donuts are delicious, and the apple slush is something everyone should try at least once. They sell bags of Michigan grown apples right from the Michigan orchards that they buy them from, they can’t be beat. Parmenter's has the main building where you buy your cider, donuts, and other goodies which is adorned with historical photos and documents about the Parmenter family who were the original owners of the mill, restrooms, picnic tables, tall, giant wooden structures to use as standing tables, a play area for kids, two huts outdoors that sell hotdogs and roasted nuts in weekends, a winery across the parking lot, and a nice shoreline area on the rouge where you can just relax and watch the wildlife. Sometimes there are deer that walk up in the ridge behind the river, they’re majestic. It can be busy on weekends, but the wonderful staff working at the counter keeps the line chugging along. Don’t forget to ask for a bag of duck donuts to feed the ducks, geese, and in the summer, the...
