I went into the norwalk ohio goodwill while waiting for my clothes at the laundry mat across the street. I was digging through all the 5.99 and under items and came across a neat little poster and wanted to buy it. It didn’t have a price tag on so I asked the cashier how much it was and she said it’s the price of any of their posters $1.99 but the girl working with her said she would go back and have them put that price mark on it. Well I continue to stand at the register for 30 minutes while they had the poster in the back, even the cashier was wondering what the heck was going on. The stores checkout line was backing way up and we were all so confused how it was taking a half hour to put a 1.99 sticker on my item. Finally after 35 minutes the manager comes out and said oh I someone waiting on this or something knowing full well I was waiting over a half hour because the cashier sent 3 different employers back 4 different times to see what the hold up was. Then she states that instead of putting the 1.99 tag on it she looked at it and thought it was cool and spent a half hour googling it to see if it was worth more. She comes out with a price tag of $75 because she researched it and it was worth a little but of money and then wanted to keep it for herself. I was irate at this point. She was extremely rude and disrespectful to me and I said how wrong it was what she just did. It should have been priced what they originally told me at 1.99 and I’m the one who dug through the bins for an hour to fins it. They should have price valued it before putting it out on the shelves and it was priced to me at 1.99. I basically was buying the item and she took it from me went to the back with it while she researched the value for 30 minutes because she wanted it herself. I am absolutely appalled at what happened and am reporting this to every corporate and higher up that I can until something is done about this. I got cheated out of something I looked hard and found and was told it was the price of any other poster they receive but the manager seen it and instead upped the price to$75 dollars and keeping it for herself all while leaving me stand in line waiting for over a half hour. All the other customers in line agreed how unprofessional she was for her own gain and they were in shock how...
Read moreWHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE??? Used to be a great place to find unusual and unique items at fair prices. Now filled with a ton of overpriced junk! Currently they are doing a major renovation, which means prices will be even HIGHER for the local community's DONATED GOODS when finished. They want top dollar for everything as it is. Unfriendly and rude store manager ruling over a demoralized staff. She needs to go, along with GW upper management that is allowing this, completely unaware of low employee morale and unhappy customers. Constant turnover in staff and never the same faces working from week to week. Not a fun and pleasant shopping experience. Not buying the "maintenance and overhead costs" excuse for price increases. They are exploiting a trend for secondhand goods and taking full advantage of it. They don’t care that they are losing customers, especially ones that have shopped at this location for years.
MERCHANDISE-Ordinary donated goods with an occasional something that may be nicer. Prices are too high for what these things are. My favorite was the Dollar Tree bowl for 9.99. The average low ball price went from .99 to 2.99 and up. Lots of really unattractive home items. Majority in used condition and not in good, used condition at that. Anything that is older is priced like a precious antique. They don’t know how to price and say that it is "market value". Market value? Maybe for a large metropolitan area such as Cleveland. They also take the majority of their pricing from the internet, tending to go with the highest price out there and EVERYTHING gets looked up!
MISSION. What is it? None of the staff can seem to answer the question. What does all of the revenue go to for these donated goods? Who is it helping and how? Is each store a franchise? Is it under the guise of a 5013C non profit? It is all for the Goodwill mission seems to be the answer of choice, but WHAT IS THE MISSION??? When you ask the staff, you get a different answer from everyone. You can never get a cohesive answer. A couple of employees didn’t even have an answer for what the mission was, one being completely honest by saying "she didn't know".
Such a SAD business model for a nonprofit that is supposed to be helping and giving back to the community that...
Read moreThis Goodwill looks very nice from the outside, so I was excited to check it out. It’s okay. There are tons of women’s clothes, but I feel like this may be one of those locations that picks through all of the good/“like-new” stuff and only racks the dingy, old clothes for customers. In several racks of clothing, I couldn’t find one blouse, tank top, sweater, or pair of pants that looked high quality or in good condition. Most items racked were Walmart/budget store brands and in poor condition. Every Goodwill I’ve ever been in (which is many throughout the US) has had at least some nice clothing in it but this had none. I was very disappointed. Toddler clothes section was also very disappointing. I feel like this store, however, was very well-organized and the employees...
