Can’t believe I have had to do this because my experience before today actually has been good with this gym and location. But today, it was not good at all and I will be canceling my membership due to the interaction I had with a worker (named or calls herself/goes by MiMi/MeMe) who was very much so short, rude, and dismissive by talking over me during our initial phone call (not letting me finish my sentences to the point I had to tell her to hold on and let me finish) and rushing me over the phone when calling them about more information on an extra charge I saw on my card that shows it was processed yesterday at 9:05 PM after I made a payment ALONG with the late fee for the month of April yesterday at 5:20 PM. They ended up charging my card once again as a retry payment when I already had made a payment through the app with its late fee since I made a payment a couple days after the payment date due to payment dates changing with my job (April 1st was when it was due, yesterday was when I made it which was April 3rd).
Secondly, she was so rushed with trying to hurry up and speak over me without even letting me finish my own sentences that she retorted to saying how I need to try and make a payment a few days before the due date because things like this happen when you don’t make a payment on the due date. I then told her that I didn’t make the payment on the due date because my payment dates with my job position changed and is why I went through the APP to pay the monthly fee along with the late fee with no problem. She then said she was just telling me of why this error supposedly happens. During this call she had put me on hold to see about her manager giving her more information on the extra charge and came back and said that the charge is pending (even on my end it’s not, which I expressed this to her) and it will be refunded and my information will be given to the manager. I asked if I would be contacted once that happens and I asked if I could have the manager’s information and she not only SHUT DOWN/REFUSED to give me the manager’s information, when I asked who I was speaking with she said her title and her name very lightly which I asked her again who she was and she said “MiMi/MeMe” which I highly doubt that was/is her legal full first name. I asked her for her last name along with her first name given this and she quickly retorted to that I don’t need that and she’s not allowed to give out her last name.
I then asked how to cancel my membership because at this point I don’t know what kind of location of Powerhouse Gym they are running here at Novi when you’re adamant about not giving me the Manager’s information in ADDITION to not providing me your actual full legal first name at least and last name for the customer’s own security and insurance and to actually KNOW who they are talking to if they have to refer back to you on what was told to them. This is coming from someone who HAS and has HAD the occupation title of “Manager.”
Got a second call back from this woman saying that they took a second charge out for the month of May and that her manager isn’t in yet, but they are going to be returning it and it will take a “couple” of days (by that time I already saw that it looked like they took money out for May as well on the app and I said that I saw so on the app to her). I still asked will I still be in contact with a manager about this and she stated (rushing over me verbally) she will and she’s still going to give my information to the manager.
Overall this experience has prompted me to not only cancel my membership, but I will never use...
Read moreI wanted to take a moment to share my recent experience with Powerhouse Gym and offer a word of caution to anyone considering signing their yearly contract.
Last Sunday, my spouse and I visited Powerhouse Gym and decided to sign up for their yearly contract, which was priced at $40 per person. The staff at the gym were friendly and took the time to explain all the details to us, which we appreciated.
However, just four days later, my wife learned from a coworker about a program offered through her company's insurance policy with Blue Cross Blue Shield 365. This program allowed us to receive similar benefits for a monthly cost of only $28, without the need for a contract. Excited about this discovery, my wife promptly went back to Powerhouse Gym to discuss the situation with the staff member who initially assisted us.
To her credit, the staff member was understanding and agreed that it would be fair to match the $28 monthly price for our yearly contract. However, she advised my wife to speak with a senior manager (a woman with red hair) to finalize the arrangement. Unfortunately, the senior manager's response was far from satisfactory. Not only was the manager rude, but she outright denied all of my wife's offers and insisted that we either pay a total buyout fee of $280 for both of us or remain locked into the contract for the full year.
This turn of events left us feeling disappointed and frustrated. It seems that Powerhouse Gym prioritizes their own financial gain over accommodating their customers and being flexible with pricing options. It's essential for newcomers to exercise caution when considering signing a contract with this gym. Be aware that they may not be willing to match competitive offers or provide reasonable alternatives, even when presented with better options.
In conclusion, my intention in sharing this review is to alert others who may be considering a yearly contract with Powerhouse Gym. While the initial staff members were friendly, the experience with the senior manager was extremely unsatisfactory. Take heed and carefully evaluate all your options before committing to a contract with...
Read moreTLDR; staff doesn’t know their own policies and will squeeze every $ out of you. Managers are never available and will never call you back. Good luck if you ever need to cancel.
First of all, I’d like to say that I was a member here for about 6 years and I did enjoy working out here and using the facility.
My problem and reason for the 1 start is their contract and cancellation process. Before all of the construction on 275 I used to work nearby, making the gym convenient. Eventually I changed jobs and am no longer in the area and I don’t want to drive 45min+ each way. I decided to cancel.
I called and spoke to someone and they said I needed to come in. I said I couldn’t so they told me to send an email stating my desire to cancel. I did. Effective at the end of March, 2023. In April I noticed that I still got charged my monthly fee. I called in and they said that it would take 30 days for my contract to be canceled. They also transferred me to a manager, no one answered and I left a voice mail asking them to call me back. No one ever did.
Next month I saw another charge, I was as in the area and went in, was told that I would need to speak with a manager, none was available but they would make a note and have someone call me. No one ever did.
Again I saw another monthly charge and I went in. I was told that I would need to pay $179 to buy out my contract. I asked if I could have done that a few months ago and avoided the monthly charges I had been receiving since cancelling, I was told yes. If I had paid that upfront I would not have been continuously charged. Wow, that would have been nice to know. I asked if I could speak to a manager to see if they could refund me the months I paid instead of just paying the upfront fee. They said no one was in but they would have them call me back. No one ever did.
The staff needs to be better informed on their own policy and process and managers are never available. You’ll never get them on the phone either. They basically make themselves unavailable until...
